A Rocky Road to Release

Little Nightmares 3 is officially releasing in 2025, and fans of the eerie puzzle series are abuzz. Originally set for debut in 2024 following its tease at Gamescom the year prior, its delay came as a disappointment to many. Players grew increasingly concerned when original developers, Tarsier Studios, left the third installment in the hands of Supermassive Games. Despite being known for narrative-driven horror titles, Until Dawn and The Quarry, long-time fans of the Little Nightmares series questioned whether Supermassive could capture the unique atmosphere of the previous games. Even so, excitement for the upcoming title is palpable amongst the fanbase.

How Little Nightmares 3 Seeks to Stand Out

The new developers have sought to preserve the beloved art style and core narrative of the game. Even so, Little Nightmares 3 also offers new, standout characters in Low and Alone, who’ve already captured the hearts of many players. It also delivers on the one feature fans have been begging for the loudest: online co-op. For the first time in the history of the series, players can team up with a friend to traverse the haunting environments set before them. For those looking to go it alone, their companion in-game will be controlled by artificial intelligence.

In the case of Little Nightmares 3, the developers have expressed a commitment to ensuring that the AI is well-balanced and doesn’t take any of the fun away from solo players as they go about solving puzzles. Gameplay teasers have also revealed the same stealth-based mechanics that have enthralled and frustrated players in the past. With the addition of co-op, however, teamwork becomes even more integral to surviving the world of Little Nightmares 3.

Where to Play Little Nightmares 3?

To the delight of gamers across platforms, Little Nightmares 3 is confirmed to be releasing on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC. This means players on current to last-generation consoles will be able to delve into this new storyline. The broadness of platform availability is likely to ensure that both longtime fans and newcomers alike will have the opportunity to explore the game’s new terrain, no matter what device they prefer.

What Supermassive Brings to the Table

Originally, fans of the Little Nightmares series were understandably anxious about the change in game developer. However, gameplay teasers have revealed that Supermassive seems to want to honor the legacy, narrative, and art style of the previous titles. Players are hoping to see a generous blend of the original gameplay and essence with Supermassive’s unique storytelling. Keeping core elements of the series is essential to building on its foundation, but fans are equally as interested to see how fresh ideas will be represented in this well-loved way under new visionaries.

A Potential Release Date

Although no release date for Little Nightmares 3 has been officially confirmed, a recent Target product listing has caused widespread speculation. Although it could easily be a placeholder date, September 15, 2025, is listed as the arrival date for Little Nightmares 3 across all platforms. Fans of the series are cautiously optimistic about the potential of a release in the late third quarter of the year.
