At the end of the 2024 LoL Esports year, the LCS, CBLOL, and LLA ended. Riot announced that the regions would be combining into the LTA. The LCS would become LTA North, while CBLOL became LTA South. The LLA teams would be divided among them. Many resented the changes and called for a revert. After one unsuccessful year, Riot has announced that the LTA rebrand is leaving with LCS and CBLOL returning.

LTA’s Disastrous Rebrand Comes to a Close

The rebrand saw the loss of international spots for the LCS. Only one team from the original LCS went to MSI. They had two possible slots for the World Championship. The CBLOL retained their number of teams, but they missed out on the First Stand. Only one slot existed for the First Stand for the LTA region, with teams competing in a Cross-Conference.

The viewership for the LTA North dropped dramatically with the rebrand. The rebrand was not the only part to blame. The format decreased the entertainment value. The Portuguese viewership remained largely the same. However, the loss of CBLOL has hurt the region.

LTA Reverted to LCS and CBLOL

In 2026, the regions will become separate. There are no more Cross-Conference competitions for placements at international events. Riot might hold events in the future between the two teams. The teams in each region are likely going to be the same, but what is happening with the guest slots is still to be determined.

International Seeding

Each region will have its own seeding for each international event.

  • First Stand
    • LCS – 1 seed
    • CBLOL – 1 seed
  • MSI
    • LCS – 2 seeds
    • CBLOL – 1 seed
  • World Championship
    • LCS – 3 seeds
    • CBLOL – 1 seed

Rebrand Reaction

The community is appreciative to see the return of the LCS and CBOL. The LCS region gets its seeds back for the international events, but is that fair? Almost half of the LCS teams qualify for the World Championship, while the CBLOL has one. The recent LTA Championship Playoffs have shown that the South has teams that can compete at the top and deserve a chance at the World Championship. Hopefully, they change the seedings and give CBLOL the ability to send more teams to international events.
