Mario Kart World is one of the flagship games for the Nintendo Switch 2. While Donkey Kong Bananza seems to be getting better reception, most Switch 2 owners included Mario Kart World with their console purchase. In fact, 82% of Nintendo Switch buyers also bought Mario’s latest kart racing adventure.
According to IGN, 82% of US gamers who bought the Nintendo Switch 2 also bought Mario Kart World, either purchasing the bundle that includes a Mario Kart World download or purchasing the game separately from the console. Although many people complained about a kart racer costing $80, that didn’t stop them from buying the game. However, to be fair, purchasing the bundle shaves $30 off the game’s price.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is the fastest-selling gaming hardware in US history, selling over 1.6 million units in June. If you’re a Nintendo fan, there’s a good chance that you were one of the lucky people able to grab a Switch 2, or you’re still waiting for them to be stocked somewhere where you can get them. The supply and demand have been so unbalanced that Nintendo’s CEO actually issued an apology for the shortage.
I finally got to order a Switch 2 this morning, and I ordered the Mario Kart World bundle. However, with Donkey Kong Bananza getting massive praise from both critics and fans, it may dethrone the kart racer as the Switch 2’s killer app. Some players might decide that they’d rather smash through the destructible environments in Bananza than race around an open world. In addition, a new Switch 2 bundle is now available for pre-order, this one including the upcoming Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Mario Kart World may indeed find itself dethroned, but it will always be the Switch 2’s first flagship game.
