MLB The Show 26 ‘New Legends’ List Sparks Debate — Who’s Missing?
San Diego Studio

It’s March. And that means baseball is almost back. MLB The Show 26 is just weeks away, with early access beginning March 13 and the full release on March 17. With launch around the corner, San Diego Studio rolled out its ‘New Legends from Every Era in MLB’ showcase — and fans immediately started dissecting every frame.

The true newcomers headline this class. Pedroia, Hernández and Andruw Jones immediately project as Diamond Dynasty staples, while Campanella brings legitimate pop behind the plate. The continued Negro Leagues additions also signal that SDS is still investing in that historical storytelling layer.

Here’s the full list from the reveal:

  • Dustin Pedroia (New Legend)
  • Jeff Conine (New Legend)
  • Dave Roberts (New Legend)
  • Fred Lynn (New Legend)
  • Andruw Jones (New Legend)
  • Roy Campanella (New Legend)
  • Félix Hernández (New Legend)
  • Phil Rizzuto (New Legend)
  • Jeromy Burnitz (New Legend)
  • John Henry “Pop” Lloyd (New Legend)
  • Mamie “Peanut” Johnson (New Legend)
  • George “Mule” Suttles (New Legend)
  • Albert Pujols
  • Mickey Mantle
  • Roberto Clemente
  • Hank Aaron
  • Randy Johnson
  • Ken Griffey Jr.
  • Graig Nettles
  • Red Schoendienst

But the reaction wasn’t unanimous praise. The loudest recurring question in the comments: Where is Ichiro? Fans also called for Barry Bonds, A-Rod and Dwight Gooden. Others questioned why returning legends are sometimes marketed alongside new additions.

There’s an important reality here. Legend rights are individually negotiated. SDS does not automatically own likeness rights to retired players — deals must be struck with the player or their estate. In some cases, those rights are expensive, complicated, or simply unavailable. That’s often why fan favorites like Bonds have historically been absent. It isn’t always a design choice — it’s a licensing one.

Still, across eras and play styles, this is a deep and diverse legend pool. Whether more surprises are coming remains to be seen. For now, the countdown to MLB The Show 26 is officially on.
