Typically, the month of July is a bit of a dry stretch for gaming, with releases slowing down in the summer. The most anticipated video game releases for July 2025, though, are strong, thanks to one very big drop last month that has been dominating the industry discussions for months now. That, of course, is the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, which was released on June 5. Because of the launch, there are a ton of games paired along with it, both for launch day and the weeks and months following. While many are not entirely new IPs, there are still plenty of exciting drops coming to the July lineup.
There is quite a list of games coming out for July 2025, which you can find here. Many of the most anticipated video game releases for June are for the Switch 2, and of those, they are largely dominated by remakes, remasters, and rereleases with Switch 2 upgrades. Still, there is plenty of variety for Nintendo fans to dig into, and even those who are not looking at the Switch 2 just yet, there are games for you as well.
Still, there are five games specifically I want to highlight as the most anticipated video game releases in June. Keep an eye out for these, and the many other games that will dominate your free time the rest of the year!
The latest entry in the rebooted college sports series is set to drop in July, and if it is anything like its predecessor, it will be an immediate hit. In the US market, College Football 25 was among the best sellers for the year. While there are no major changes from year to year, as is the case with most yearly sports game franchises, the team has made some tweaks to the franchise. College Football 26 will feature quality of life improvements as well as gameplay improvements, such as expanded player types and abilities. Football fans, rejoice. The wait is almost over!
A remake/remaster makes the list of most anticipated video game releases in July, thanks to the franchise from which it comes. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater defined and popularized extreme sports, especially extreme sports in video games, and for all intents and purposes, put an entirely new genre on the map. These remade versions of 3 + 4 come several years after the first two games were released in the same way. The updates include improvements to the visuals, rebuilt locations including new additions, soundtracks that mix old and new songs, and an updated character roster that has brought old legends together with new superstars.
Donkey Kong Bananza hopes to follow up last month’s sensational Mario Kart World release as another Switch 2 exclusive success story. It has been over a decade since the last new Donkey Kong mainline game was released, and the first solo adventure since 1999, although rereleases and remasters have come out in between. Unlike Mario Kart, Donkey Kong is a lesser-known franchise, but it has grown in popularity over the years, and the fanbase is highly loyal. The exciting gameplay changes, including open-world mechanics and hidden secrets, only further add to the excitement for the game to drop, making it a clear most anticipated video game for July.
This gruesome first-person coop shooter horror was delayed in its release after the developers received player feedback during Beta testing. Tripwire Interactive explains that among the improvements made during the extra time were redesigning the HUD, adjusting gameplay to be smoother and more player-friendly, and other quality of life improvements. It lands in the most anticipated video game releases list because of the fact it could become the co-op game of the year for 2025. Teams will group up with up to five other friends to take on Zed monsters, 70 years after the storyline of Killing Floor 2. Hopefully, the wait has been worth it!
Technically, this one is not exactly a new entry, but there are some fairly substantial updates to the original October release. What lands it among the most anticipated video game releases for July is how the update offers entirely new games and content that make fantastic use of the new Switch 2 Joy Con features. Specifically, the mouse controls add a whole new level of depth to an already well-received game in the Mario Party franchise. Improved graphics, frame rates, and Gameshare round out some of the upgrades for this exciting new version.
