The first day of play at the Mid-Season Invitational will not knock out teams. The matches will set the groundwork for the rest of the tournament. For G2 Esports and Bilibili Gaming, they must assert their dominance over weaker opposition. Furia and GAM Esports, on the other hand, aim to prove their place in the International scene and defy expectations.
The first match of MSI 2025 will feature G2 versus Furia today at noon PST (9 pm CET). Once that match is complete, BLG will take on GAM shortly after, with the current expected start time as 5 pm PST (2 am CET June 28th). However, that is only likely to happen if the first match goes to five games.
G2 Esports 3 – 0 Furia
The G2 team entering MSI this year is weaker than the previous iterations. In saying that, they should still be stronger than their South American opposition. Furia put in a formidable effort to reach MSI, but on paper, they appear to be the weakest team in the tournament. As we have seen in previous international events, South American teams should not be underestimated, so G2 will need to be at their best to defeat Furia.
Bilibili Gaming 3 – 1 GAM Esports
Heading into the Play-ins for MSI, BLG is looking like the best team. Similarly to G2, they are not performing at the same level as their previous iterations, but that does not mean they are not favorites for the entire tournament. GAM poses a significant threat, far greater than Furia, and with the power of friendship, should be able to take at least one game from BLG. However, a series win for GAM is unlikely.
The victors of their respective series will progress to the winner’s match to decide who is the first team to qualify for the Bracket Stage. The losers, on the other hand, will face off to stay in the tournament. The winners’ and losers’ matches occur tomorrow at the same time slots. The day begins with the losers’ match building into the winners’ match.
