GenG Esports returns to the Midseason-Invitational stage as the defending champions. After an undefeated split, GenG is looking more dominant than ever. Many favor GenG to defend the MSI title in Vancouver. Will one of the MSI teams rise to challenge the indomitable tiger? Or will Chovy add one more stepping stone in his path to eclipse Faker as the greatest League of Legends player?

GenG Esports Roster

  • Kim “Kiin” Ki-in – Korean Top Laner
  • Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu – Korean Jungler
  • Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon – Korean Mid Laner
  • Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk – Korean Bot Laner
  • Joo “Duro” Min-kyu – Korean Support
  • Kim “Kim” Jung-su – Korean Coach

The top side of the GenG 2024 roster remained unchanged. Bot laner Kim “Peyz” Su-hawn and support Son “Lehends” Si-woo left the roster. They were replaced by former Samsung Galaxy and GenG Bot Laner, Ruler, and former FearX Support, Duro. While Duro has exceeded expectations, Ruler has failed to meet his.

How They Got Here

After narrowly missing out on First Stand, losing 3-2 to Hanwha Life Esports, GenG went on a revenge path. They went 18-0 during the split, only losing five games in total. The streak gave them the first seed for the Road to MSI, meaning one victory would qualify them for the international tournament. That match would be against HLE. After going down 0-2, GenG fought back, completing the reverse sweep and ending Zeka’s game-five dominance. The victory earned GenG a spot at MSI as the LCK’s first seed.

Expectations

Anything short of an MSI victory for this roster is a disappointment. Chovy and GenG ended their international drought last year, knocking a chip off their shoulder. They must continue to prove they deserve to be considered among the top dogs of global events, not just domestic giants, with a victory. The only aspect standing in their path is themselves, and they must conquer their mistakes to achieve world domination.

GenG’s Journey

GenG will begin MSI as the first seed, given HLE’s victory at First Stand. They are in the first tier alongside Movistar KOI. They await the result of the Play-Ins to discover their first opponent. If G2 Esports makes the Bracket Stage, GenG will battle the European outfit. Regardless of their first-round draw, a victory will see them face the winners of FlyQuest and their opponent because of MSI rules.
