MTG x Final Fantasy: Behind-The-Scenes Set Unveiled at PAX East 2025

Crafting the Set

Designing this crossover was a massive undertaking. Gavin Verhey and Zakeel Gordon led the team, blending mechanics from 16 Final Fantasy games into MTG. In an EDHREC interview, Verhey explained how playtesting won over even non-Final Fantasy players. The art team also shone, crafting 50 woodblock-style cards inspired by Japanese culture.
