Nefer Strikes! Genshin Impact Debuts New DPS Character

My spies tell me a new character has arrived in Nod Krai. And, what’s more, she’s shaking up all our preconceptions about Dendro DPS. Nefer, boss of the Curatorium of Secrets and head of the Northern Intelligence Network, is here, and she’s poised to strike a deadly deal.

How Does Nefer Work

Nefer is a 5-Star Dendro Catalyst Main DPS who deals damage with her Normal Attacks and Special Charged Attack, while also, effectively, creating ammunition for her Elemental Burst. She scales off of both ATK and Elemental Mastery.

Breaking With Tradition

Nefer’s main gameplay revolves around the creation of Bloom Cores. However, unlike most Bloom-based characters, Nefer DOES NOT want the Cores she creates to explode. In fact, if the party is under the effects of Moonsign: Ascendant Gleam, using Nefer’s Elemental Skill will lock any existing or newly created Bloom Cores for 15 seconds, preventing them from detonating in any way (be it their own timer or from Hyperbloom or Burgeon reactions). Instead, they will hang around the field as Seeds of Deceit, though they can still despawn if you create more than 5.

Charge Up the Cannon

When Nefer uses her Elemental Skill, she will enter the Shadow Dance state for 9 seconds. While in this state, if the party has at least 1 Verdant Dew, her normal Charged Attack will be replaced with a Special one that consumes no Stamina and can be used twice.

When Nefer uses either her normal Charged Attack or the Special Charged Attack granted to her by her Skill, she absorbs all the Seeds of Deceit around her. Each Seed absorbed will give her 1 stack of Veil of Falsehood. When she has 3 stacks of this effect or when the 3rd stack duration is refreshed (by absorbing another Seed beyond the 3rd), Nefer’s EM will increase by 100 for 8 seconds.

Each stack of Veil of Falsehood increases the damage of Nefer’s Elemental Burst, up to a max of 3 stacks. Using her Burst consumes all stacks. At max level, the increase to her Burst DMG with all 3 stacks is 120%. Each stack of Veil of Falsehood also increases the damage of Nefer’s Special Charged Attack (though the stacks are not consumed when she uses it, unlike with her Burst). Each stack has an independent duration of 9 seconds.

Extra Information to Sweeten the Deal

Her 1st Passive is what allows her to transform normal Bloom Cores into Seeds of Deceit. Her 2nd Passive allows her to gain Verdent Dew faster based on her EM. Her 3rd Passive increases her Lunar-Bloom DMG based on her EM. The damage from her Special Charged Attack is considered Lunar-Bloom DMG.

What to Build on Nefer

ATK and EM. You need a total of 800 EM to gain the full benefits from her 3rd Passive, so adjust your Main Stats accordingly. CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG Sub Stats are a given, but a little ER couldn’t hurt. Her best Artifact set is the Night of the Sky’s Unveiling, meaning that, if you can reach the EM requirements with 2 or less Artifact Main Stats, you can go CRIT DMG for your Hat.

As is customary, her personal weapon, Reliquary of Truth, is her best option. If you can’t get that, try either Nightweaver’s Looking Glass or Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds as your 5-Star options and Dawning Frost or Wandering Evenstar as your 4-Star options.

Who Synergizes with Nefer

Since you need 2 Moonsign characters for Nefer to work correctly, Lauma is one of your best friends right now. Aino is an option, but her Burst being static does drop her a few rungs down the ladder of usability. Nilou is an option, if you want more persistent Hydro application, but you have to make sure you use Nefer’s Skill before activating Nilou Hydro aura, or you’ll end up losing your first batch of Dendro Cores. And, of course, Furina is always an excellent choice. Candace, also, has potential.
