Anticipation and hype are building up for the Nintendo Switch 2’s release later this week. Today, Nintendo has launched the official Nintendo Switch 2 website in full working order. This includes pre-orders being available online through various retailers. Fans are rushing to get their hands on the latest console from Nintendo following the massive success of the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch 2 looks to build on this great foundation for a hybrid console, but with much improved hardware that can handle much more demanding games and warrant the often criticized expected retail price.
The official Nintendo Switch 2 website functions mostly as a promotional display while the console is still awaiting its release. However, it will be used as a HUB for users to manage their accounts and digital data once the system goes live. Users can log into their existing Nintendo account through the website currently and pre-order digital versions of upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games. The website features headlining promotion for Mario Kart Worlds and Donkey Kong Bananza, but also puts other Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive titles like Metroid Prime 4 and The Duskbloods at easy access for fans who want to download and play these games online as soon as possible.
Nintendo is also preparing for the release of its upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 with the release of health and safety information, which is available as a downloadable PDF file. This collection of health and safety information includes a section on “Careful Usage,” which warns users, “The screen is covered with a film layer designed to prevent fragments scattering in the event of damage. Do not peel it off.” When unboxing your new Nintendo Switch 2 later this week, be careful not to unwrap your new device too much.
This protective adhesive layer protects the screen’s glass from shattering and spreading should the screen ever experience any damage. Another warning states, “Make sure to charge the built-in batteries at least once every six months,” Nintendo also cautions. “If the batteries are not used for an extended period, it may become impossible to charge them.” Six months is a significant amount of time, but this is causing enough concern to address from those who have noticed it.
When the Nintendo Switch 2 is officially released on June 5, the world will get their first chance to make a full and proper judgment on the system and its capabilities. Details about the upcoming release have been heavily guarded by Nintendo, and due to this, the hype is at a peak in anticipation of the successor to the highest-grossing video game console of all time.
Sales are certain to be astronomical, and early issues are certain to emerge, but when it’s all said and done and the smoke clears, I hope that the Switch 2 will be a success. The last time Nintendo had this much commercial momentum with the Nintendo Wii, the follow-up console, the Wii U, fell flat on its face. Let’s hope Nintendo learned from this and sticks the landing this time.
