The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has been out for a sufficient amount of time for many players to be reaching high levels within the game. Many returning fans may have already logged hundreds of hours into the game’s classic version in the years since 2006 and know most of the secrets hidden in Cyrodiil. For those of you who have forgotten some of these secrets or are new to the game, this article can serve as a bit of a guide for you. Here are the best spells in Oblivion Remastered, excluding custom spells for now, which we will cover another time.

1. Legendary Spell Reflection

The perfect defense against mages and undead magic users like Liches. This spell will result not only in the player taking no damage from spells but also in reflecting the spell on the caster. You can buy this spell in Oblivion Remastered from Agata in the Leyawin Mage’s Guild hall. There are also spells that absorb magic used against the player and add to the magicka pool of the player. However, this spell is the perfect combination of defense and damaging potential.

2. Paralyze

This Master level Illusion spell is one of the most hilarious in Oblivion Remastered. It is also one of the most useful. While the effect only lasts for 10 seconds, it renders the target completely stiff, as the name implies. This allows the player 10 whole seconds to wail on their helpless victim or escape difficult battles. You can buy this spell at the Mystic Emporium at any point in the game. Once you can cast it, you can even recast it on opponents to reset the effect and leave them stunlocked.

3. Finger of the Mountain

Finger of the Mountain is the strongest standard spell in Oblivion Remastered. You will have to complete the Finger of the Mountain questline to get it, though. When it comes time to hand over the book, just make sure that you choose Earana over Teekeeus to make sure that you get it. This spell costs less than Immolation Blast and, at its highest level, is truly the strongest Destruction spell in the game, especially because Daedra enemies are weak to shock damage.

4. Summon Storm Atronach

Conjuration summons are very potent in Oblivion Remastered. There are a few spells which trump them in terms of overall usefulness and power, but this list would not be complete without telling you which summon is the strongest in Oblivion Remastered. The answer to that question is the Storm Artronach, which you can buy from Vigge the Cautious. There are other summons which are comparable; the Lich, for example, is completely unfazed by non-magical attacks. However, in terms of duration, usefulness, and spell cost, the Storm Atronach is the best companion in most cases.

5. Heal Legendary Wounds

While it isn’t the most exciting answer to finish off the list, it’s still an inevitable fact that you are going to cast a lot of healing spells. In Oblivion Remastered, the Restoration school of magic may be the overall strongest in the game. However, this comes much more into play once we begin to talk about custom spells, which we will do at a later date. For now, the idea here is pretty simple: this spell is expensive but powerful enough to heal even the tankiest characters in Oblivion Remastered. Okay, well, at least the ones that aren’t using glitches and exploits to break the stat caps in the game.
