Outer Worlds 2 Reveals Companion Roster, But Don’t Expect Space Love

Just when you thought Outer Worlds 2 might let you smooch some space cowboys, Obsidian Entertainment swoops in with a reality check that hits harder than a plasma rifle to the face. At Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, they dropped a new trailer showcasing the game’s companions—and boy, did they make sure to crush any romantic aspirations right off the bat.

No Space Romance for You, Apparently

The trailer’s narrator didn’t mince words: “and no, you can’t sleep with them.” Ouch! Talk about reading the room and then deliberately setting it on fire. It’s like Obsidian looked at every thirsty gamer out there and said, “Absolutely not.”

Sure, we get to see the ruggedly handsome Tristan swinging his giant hammer around (and yes, that’s exactly as appealing as it sounds), but apparently, we can’t even give the guy a friendly peck on the cheek. What’s the point of putting attractive space companions in front of us if we can’t pursue them romantically? It’s basically digital window shopping at this point!

What We Get Instead

Despite the romance lockdown, Outer Worlds 2 is still shaping up to be pretty exciting. The companion trailer showed off this “merry band of misfits” who’ll presumably help you navigate whatever corporate hellscape awaits in the sequel. While we can’t wine and dine them, at least they’ll probably have interesting backstories and combat abilities to make up for the emotional distance.

Mark your calendars, space explorers! Outer Worlds 2 is launching on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 29. That gives you plenty of time to mentally prepare for a completely platonic relationship with your digital companions.
