Phantom Blade Zero will come out on September 9, 2026 for PS5 and PC. However, the game will be console-exclusive to the PS5 for 12 months prior to release on other consoles. The game may come out on Xbox Series X|S or Nintendo Switch 2 on September 9, 2027. Phantom Blade Zero developer S-GAME stated in June 2024 that they did not have an exclusive deal with Sony. The game’s release date was announced at last week’s Game Awards.
Like Where Winds Meet, the game has elements of Wuxia, a popular Chinese historical fantasy genre. The game’s story will take about 20-30 hours, with 20 additional hours of side content. The game is not a pure Souls-like game, so people burnt out of Souls-likes can breathe easily.
The upcoming action-RPG will feature boss fights designed to ease frustration, as players can restart directly from a boss’s second phase upon dying, instead of repeating earlier stages.
The game follows Soul, an assassin framed for a murder who tries to uncover the truth of what happened. IGN looked at the game in October, and the game’s previewer said, “It never felt cheap; it just demanded more from me. In just over an hour of play, I was easily ten times the player I was when I started. It’s a feeling of achievement that is reserved for the very best action games on the planet. If the rest is anything like what I played at [Tokyo Game Show], I feel like there’s a real chance that Phantom Blade 0 might be one of those games.”
PushSquare’s Sammy Barker wrote, “Obviously, given Microsoft’s well-documented issues, a port to Xbox platforms is not guaranteed. And whether the ambitious outing can be scaled to run on Nintendo’s hybrid hardware is still very much up for debate.”
PureXbox’s Ben Kerry wrote, “It’s been a bit of a controversial road to release for Phantom Blade Zero, which included a rogue response from one developer in 2024 when asked about an Xbox version of the title. This whole saga has shades of Black Myth: Wukong and its own drama about it, to be honest – but at least in this case we finally have some real confirmation of an exclusivity window being in place.”
The game will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on September 9, 2026.
