Resident Evil Requiem is the next installment to the iconic series that started almost 30 years ago, and it is set to release in February of next year. This game is really exciting, given the direction of horror and gameplay in Requiem, at least from what we’ve already seen. Now, Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi is divulging a little bit more on the upcoming game. Here’s what he had to say.
According to director Nakanishi, Resident Evil Requiem will focus a lot more on psychological horror, rather than the usual action that’s been present throughout the series. Requiem will be a lot darker than previous installments, which will be reflected in boss fights. From the demo we saw at Gamescom this year, the new stalker enemy is quite terrifying. And as the main character, who has little experience fighting monsters like this, the devs paid special attention to the combat style of the game.
Nakanishi explains that players will put away the usual pistol and grenade launcher that somehow became available in previous games, and in turn use their wits to defeat these monsters. The director states,
“where players expand their exploration area in a closed space and overcome obstacles using their wits.”
“being able to experience this process of growth together with the protagonist is one of the highlights of the game.”
This will definitely be something different than what players are used to within this series. The absence of iconic characters like Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, and the rumors that Leon Kennedy may join Grace as a playable character in this game, speak volumes and show just how important action is to the game. Resident Evil Requiem will definitely be nothing short of an amazing horror experience that’ll bring the series to a different level. Requiem is set to release on February 27, 2026, so don’t miss out on more updates on the game until then.
