Resident Evil Requiem is set to release next year in February, and people are buzzing about this newest installment of the series. Recently, Nintendo hosted its annual Nintendo Direct Presentation, and it was there that Nintendo announced a Switch 2 release of the newest Resident Evil game once it launches. However, Resident Evil Requiem devs have said that this wasn’t always the plan. Here’s what the developers of the game have to say about it.
During Nintendo’s annual Nintendo Direct Presentation, it was there that Nintendo announced a Switch 2 release of Resident Evil Requiem once it launches. A console reveal of the Switch 2 headlined the event, with a list of games that would port onto this new console once it releases. One of those games will be the new Resident Evil Requiem game coming out next year. But was this planned?
The short answer is no. Masato Kumazawa, a producer of Resident Evil Requiem, says to IGN that “the Switch 2 hadn’t been announced” and that a port “wasn’t in the original plan.” Starting by internally porting Resident Evil Village, the most recent installment of the franchise, gave Capcom the confidence to add Requiem to the Switch 2 once both the console and the game are released next year.
At the Tokyo Game Show, which aired last week, Kumazawa explains that,
“The Switch 2 hadn’t been announced when we started planning this game [Requiem], so of course it wasn’t in the original plan. When the Switch 2 was announced we were able to start testing developing games for it, and we thought it would be great if we could bring the Resident Evil series to this platform.”
Adding both Resident Evil Village and Requiem to the Switch is pretty exciting news. This expands the platform and reach of the series, and it’s actually proven to be really good on the new Switch console, according to some players who’ve gotten the chance to experience it at the Tokyo Game Show. Resident Evil Requiem is set to release on February 27, 2026, and until then, there is a lot more exciting stuff coming out to tease viewers even more.
