Bloody chaos, thy name is Romeo is a Deadman! This insanely violent hack-and-slash game absolutely caught our attention during the 2025 PlayStation State of Play, and let’s just say—the trailer’s execution was bloody perfect. It kept our interest the entire time and had us wondering what the heck was going on from beginning to end.

A Deadman’s Origin Story

No, this isn’t a romantic comedy hack-and-slash about Romeo’s romantic conquests seeking revenge for heartbreak. Romeo is a Deadman is a full-throttle nightmare-fueled bloodbath starring a man named Romeo, who was nearly killed during a surprise monster attack… while enjoying dinner with his family. Where did the monster come from? No clue—but the plot demanded it and we’ll find out in the full game…maybe.

To save his life, his grandfather (we think? That’s what he called him at least) injects him through his torn eye socket—yes, ouch—with something called the Dead Gear Life Support System, transforming Romeo into a Deadman. His arm, which became a chicken wing snack for the monster, returns and can wield weapons that fuel the gore. Everything he fights? Blood and guts are now confetti.

Also, side note: we’re not sure how this qualifies as “life support” when the whole sequence of becoming a Deadman looks ten times more painful than just dying in the first place, but he’s alive so, yay?

Hack-and-Slash Mayhem Incoming

From what we’ve seen so far, this is a true action hack-and-slash. Romeo can wield both swords and ranged weapons, slicing through waves of grotesque creatures. Enemies appear in overwhelming numbers, with early-game cannon fodder giving way to “they ate their Wheaties” boss fights that look like they’ll test every skill you’ve got.

The violence is over the top. The blood is constant. And yes, we’re 100% keeping an eye (heh) out for Romeo is a Deadman, making it to our games-to-watch for list 2026!
