A World of Puppet Pirates

Sea of Remnants introduces players to a unique world inhabited by “puppetfolk“—animated wooden characters embarking on a perilous journey across the open sea. The game blends elements of ocean adventure, RPG, simulation, survival building, and turn-based strategy, offering a rich and immersive experience.

SylarPan, Product Lead at Joker Studio, described the game as “an infinite voyage looping between death and rebirth—a journey where we row forward, tirelessly, only to return to where it all began”.

Gameplay and Features

In Sea of Remnants, players will:

  • Explore a Vast Oceanic World: Navigate through dynamic sea environments, uncovering secrets and encountering diverse challenges.

  • Build and Manage Resources: Gather materials to construct and upgrade ships, ensuring survival in the unpredictable ocean.

  • Engage in Strategic Combat: Utilize turn-based tactics to battle formidable foes, employing a variety of skills and strategies.

  • Experience a Unique Narrative: Delve into a story that intertwines themes of rebirth and perseverance, as players guide their puppetfolk through trials and triumphs.

The game’s free-to-play model ensures accessibility, with monetization likely centered around cosmetic items and optional expansions.

Sea of Remnants stands out not just for its striking visual aesthetic but also for its genre-blending gameplay. The handcrafted puppet characters offer a whimsical contrast to the game’s deeper themes of survival, loss, and discovery. Unlike many RPGs that follow linear progression, Sea of Remnants introduces a cyclical narrative structure where each voyage begins anew, echoing roguelike mechanics with long-term progression tied to the player’s growing mastery of the sea and their crew.

Joker Studio emphasizes emotional storytelling through environmental details, fragmented lore, and player choice. Every island and derelict ship holds clues to the world’s forgotten past, encouraging exploration beyond mere resource collection. The game also features asynchronous multiplayer elements, where players can encounter echoes or remnants of other players’ journeys—lost ships, abandoned tools, or messages in bottles.

What’s especially ambitious is the integration of seasonal content and live events, hinting at a long-term service model. With its promise of continuous updates and evolving world conditions, Sea of Remnants aims to build a community of adventurers committed not just to surviving but to uncovering the ocean’s secrets together.

Development and Release

Sea of Remnants is developed by Joker Studio, known for their work on Identity V, and published by NetEase Games. The game is scheduled for release in 2026, with availability on PlayStation 5, PC via Steam, iOS, and Android platforms.
