It feels like a broken record at this point, but it certainly appears as though 2025 is the year of the horror genre in video games. Another of these indie entries that has recently been announced is She’s Leaving, a game that takes a look at the forensic side of psychological horror. This first-person horror melds together crime and mystery, a perfect balance for both horror fans and true crime junkies out there. Perhaps neither AAA horror nor the other indies will be the game of the year, but there are still plenty of horror games making waves. AAA games have seen their fair share of releases, but Indie games are also filling the gaps admirably.
Blue Hat Studio, the studio behind She’s Waiting, aims to give fans a bit of a dive into the world of forensics as they navigate the world of blood spatter analysis in a survival horror package. The Steam page description is simple and to the point. “Put your forensic skills to the test in this brand new first-person survival horror, She’s Leaving.”
The About The Game section of the She’s Leaving page is also fairly straightforward, but definitely offers players a peek into what to expect.
STORY
As you wade through the dark halls of House Haywood, you will find meaning in blood.
Enter Charles Dalton, a forensics analyst who specializes in blood spatter, tasked with using his expert skill set to solve the disappearances of multiple persons in the snowy region of Haywood. In the darkness of a Tudor mansion, you hear the foghorn blow. You are not alone.
GAMEPLAY
Focused on the real-life practices of forensic analysts, we have created mechanics that allow the player to understand and uncover the truth behind the evidence they find. Throughout She’s Leaving, you begin to discover that there has always been a target on your back.
Equipped with a taser, the choice is up to you – are you going to run and hide, or stand and fight?
Essentially, She’s Leaving will offer players the opportunity to investigate evidence and determine what it means to the case. With multiple people disappearing, users will have to solve the mystery before they become one of the victims. Possibly most exciting about this game is the accuracy with which the forensic side of the game is built. The mechanics and lore are rooted in real forensic science and how they may approach a case like this in the real world. Fans of true crime media and crime drama shows may be especially intrigued by this feature of the game.
She’s Leaving is a simple premise, but the combination of accurate forensic representation and studies with the classic elements of survival horror provides players with a real-world spin on the genre. Indie games continue to take the genre by storm, and hopefully, She’s Leaving is another game that receives critical acclaim and helps grow the popularity of indie gaming as a whole. The game is set to release this summer on PC, though the exact date is yet to be released. The full announcement trailer for the game can be seen below. Stay tuned for more updates from Blue Hat Studio as the game continues forward towards release.
