Silent Hill f made its debut last week, selling 1 million copies in the first week. As the newest installment in the series, people are finding themselves comparing this game to the Silent Hill 2 Remake, which was released a couple of years ago. Which begs the question, which one is better? Is it the beloved remake that holds Silent Hill fans’ hearts, or the newest Silent Hill experience that has captivated gamers and critics in the week it’s been out?
Silent Hill f is the newest installment to the Silent Hill series. It’s been a week since its release, and I can personally say I’ve definitely enjoyed the hell out of the game since I bought it last week. It’s super fun and challenging as hell, especially with the added fighting mechanics that weren’t really a focal point in previous games. There is an emphasis on action and a parry and dodge system in Silent Hill f which highlights the biggest difference between the two.
The Silent Hill 2 Remake was received very well by gamers. It brought nostalgia for longtime fans of the series, with enhanced graphics fit for modern gaming. Though both games ran on the latest Unreal Engine, Silent Hill 2 was unmatched in atmosphere and tension. While playing Silent Hill 2, there was always something unsettling about the atmosphere, which enhanced the horror of the story and the terrifying monsters you face, like Pyramid Head. In terms of horror, if I had to pick which had the more dark and oppressive atmosphere, Silent Hill 2’s got my vote.
I generally love both games. The Silent Hill franchise is one of my all-time favorite game series, rich in psychological horror, story, atmosphere, and compelling characters that just draw you into the world of Silent Hill. This may be a little biased, but I would have to give my vote to Silent Hill f. This game checked off so many points in what I look for in a horror game: an amazing story, the level of horror incorporated into the game, and a dark and psychological nightmare, which makes you question everything you learn as you play through the game.
Silent Hill f managed to do that and more, and though it is getting flak for the difficult combat system that was incorporated in the game, I quite enjoy this new way to experience a Silent Hill game. Both Silent Hill f and Silent Hill 2 Remake are available now on all platforms, and though one game has won my heart over the other, I definitely recommend both games if you want to experience the horror of Silent Hill.
