Shirley Curry has been a consistent uploader in the Skyrim YouTube community for close to a decade at this point. She regularly uploads videos on her channel of mostly roleplay-style gameplay in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. While she has obtained a small bit of internet fame for her gameplay of the fifth entry in the series, she had never experienced the fourth installment when it was released back in 2006.
Her videos have charmed her viewers by displaying her genuine sense of authenticity. With over 1.3 million followers, her comment section remains a place of wholesome encouragement and loving messages from fans. Her Skyrim videos have even earned her a nod from Bethesda themselves in the past.
Of course, Oblivion Remastered was released in the year 2025, which is 13 years after the initial release of Skyrim. While long-time fans have the map of Cyrodiil embedded into their brains like it’s their hometown town many The Elder Scrolls players are visiting for the first time. Shirley Curry is one of the latter players, and in her first two uploads of Oblivion Remastered, she is often distracted by awe at the environment.
She says at one point in a wholesome voice, “Sorry, I have to look at everything. I’ve never been here before.” This statement, delivered with truth and purity, is exactly the kind of thing that makes Skyrim Grandma so beloved by her followers, as they both relate to her and are endeared by her charm.
Skyrim Grandma’s honest and pure experience wouldn’t be complete without her sharing some honest takes about what she doesn’t like about Oblivion Remastered as well. While in general, and like most players, she becomes more and more entranced with the game as she explores and becomes more familiar with it. However, especially early on, there are a few details within the game’s programming and design that don’t sit completely right with Curry. Her first point of exception was with the movement in the game and how “ugly” it is to the YouTuber.
Fans do tend to agree to this point, as the game’s movement animations were only slightly updated and still maintain much of the resemblance to the 2006 original. She also found herself not being a fan of Oblivion Remastered’s lockpicking minigame. She states that to her, the minigame “Makes no sense” and during one of her videos gives a big sigh before giving up and choosing to auto-unlock and skip the minigame. So far, she has only uploaded two videos to her YouTube channel playing Oblivion Remastered and is falling in love with the game more and more as she goes.
