Square Enix just released a pretty sweet update for Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake on May 23, 2025! It’s got the gaming community talking like crazy. Since its release in November 2024, the remake has been peak! It blends classic RPG vibes with pretty gorgeous graphics that are HD-2D. The May 2025 update brings new features plus some tweaks that make exploring the world of Dragon Quest 3 even more fun. Let’s see what’s new and also why it matters.

What’s in the May 2025 Update?

This update (version 1.1.0.0 for consoles, 1.2.0.0 for PC) packs a punch. Travel is faster now—boats and Ramia move quicker, and you won’t slow down when opening menus or fighting. You can toggle between automatic and manual flight modes for Ramia with a button press. Combat got some love too: critical hit rates are up for the Hero and Martial Artist, and abilities like Falcon Slash got buffs. The Priest can use the Duplic Hat now, and monster defenses are lower (except for metal slimes), with some giving more experience. There’s also a new shortcut button for spells and abilities, plus fixes for bugs like seed stat glitches. Check the full details in the official update notice.

How It Changes the Game

These changes make a real difference. Faster travel cuts down on the slog, letting you focus on the adventure—perfect for anyone who’s sunk hours into Dragon Quest 3. The combat tweaks shake up strategies; I’m already rethinking my party setup to use those buffed abilities. The shortcut button speeds up fights, too. It’s clear Square Enix is listening to fans.
