There were some rumors about what Square Enix planned to reveal at Summer Games Fest 2025, and let’s just say what it was is not what people expected. Still, Killer Inn seemed to be a pretty interesting game, definitely a departure from the bigger-name games that Square Enix is typically known for, like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Dragon Quest. The game appears to be a bit of a play on Clue, where teams group up and use social deduction to solve mysteries. Not everything, though, is as it appears.
Killer Inn is not the game fans expected to see announced at Summer Games Fest. Final Fantasy IX Remake was a highly popular rumor, though Dragon Quest XII and Kingdom Hearts 4 were also part of the rumors. Given the Final Fantasy Tactics announcement from State of Play, though, fans probably should have tempered expectations. Still, just because the game was unexpected does not mean it will be bad, and the multiplayer mystery has some exciting elements going for it.
Killer Inn is a team-based social deduction game, where teams will work together to solve the mystery. All players are dropped into a mansion together and split into two teams: the lambs and the wolves. The twist? It is the job of the wolves to murder all the lambs, and the lambs have no idea who is on their team. They must figure this out before the wolves commit their murders. Sounds a lot like Among Us, but with far more realistic visuals and larger, defined teams. The game could be a lot of fun, and also cause some friendships to be put to the test. How well can the wolves deceive? And will the lambs trust those deceptions?
The full trailer can be found here, as the video is rated mature and is age restricted.
Killer Inn will combine elements of Clue, elements of Among Us, and elements of murder thriller to offer players a new multiplayer experience that Square Enix has not previously been known for. The game should be enjoyable and offer some fun times for friends and strangers alike. There is no release date as of yet, but a closed beta will be coming to Steam soon, so sign up if you want to get a first look and help shape the final product.
