Deciding who to marry in Stardew Valley is a huge commitment. I mean, sure, divorce is an option, but who wants to deal with that emotional baggage and awkward encounters at the Stardrop Saloon? Beyond just picking your favorite personality, each potential spouse brings something different to the farm—literally. They’ll occasionally give you gifts, and let’s be real, some gifts are way better than others.

So, if you’re playing the long game and want a partner who pulls their weight with valuable presents, who should you be wooing with bouquets and prismatic shards? Let’s break down which Stardew Valley spouses offer the most valuable gifts, because love is great, but free stuff is even better.

Spouses Who Give the Best Stuff

If your love language is “useful items,” then you’ll want to focus on a few key candidates. These are the spouses who won’t just give you a random breakfast (though that’s nice too), but will hand over things that can actually help you in the mines, on the farm, or just make your life a little easier.

  • Abigail: Our resident spooky, purple-haired gamer girl is surprisingly practical. She’ll occasionally gift you Bombs, Cherry Bombs, and even Crab Cakes. Heading to the Skull Cavern? Abigail’s got your back with a stash of explosives. She also gives Solar and Void Essences, which are always handy for crafting. While she might chow down on amethysts, at least she shares the good stuff.
  • Maru: The brilliant inventor of the valley, Maru, offers some of the most high-tech and useful gifts around. She’s another one who provides Bombs and Cherry Bombs. Even better, she can give you a Warp Totem: Farm. Misjudged your time in the mines and about to pass out? Zap, you’re home. She also whips up some quality food like Fried Mushrooms and Crab Cakes for those sweet, sweet buffs.
  • Emily: Want to look stylish while you’re slaying slimes? Emily is your girl. Her gifts are a bit eclectic, ranging from cloth and wool to various minerals. But the real prize comes from her 14-heart event, where she gives you a full outfit, including the Magic Boots. These boots give a +4 Defense and +4 Immunity boost, making them one of the best pairs in the game until you reach Ginger Island. Practical and fashionable.
  • Leah: The artistic soul of the valley, Leah, is perfect for the forager at heart. She often gives you foraged goods like Chanterelle, Morel, and Wild Horseradish, which are key ingredients for the Life Elixir. She’ll also brew you a fresh cup of coffee to get your day started with a speed boost. It’s a simple, reliable gift that saves you the trouble of growing your own coffee beans.

Spouses with Decent, But Less Exciting, Gifts

Not everyone in Stardew Valley  is handing out explosives and warp totems. Some spouses offer more… humble contributions. These gifts are still useful, especially early on, but they might not have the same “wow” factor as the top-tier partners.

  • Penny: Sweet, book-loving Penny is a bit of a mixed bag. She can give you a Large Milk or a Geode, which is pretty solid. But she can also give you… dirt. Yes, dirt. Thanks, Penny. Her heart is in the right place, and sometimes she’ll make you a Hashbrowns breakfast, which is a nice little energy boost.
  • Shane: Everyone’s favorite redemption story, Shane, continues his love affair with pizza and pepper poppers even after marriage. He’ll occasionally make you an Omelet or Pepper Poppers, and sometimes he’ll gift you a whole pizza. It’s not exactly rare, but hey, free food is free food.
  • Harvey: The town doctor will, unsurprisingly, try to keep you healthy. Harvey often makes you a Complete Breakfast, which is a fantastic food buff for a long day of mining. He might also give you Fried Mushrooms. It’s practical, thoughtful, and very on-brand for our anxious but caring doctor.
  • Sebastian: The brooding loner of the mountains offers gifts that are, well, very Sebastian. He’ll give you Coffee, Obsidian, or Void Essence. The coffee is a great daily perk, and the other items are useful for crafting. It’s not mind-blowing, but it’s consistent and fits his vibe perfectly.

So, when you’re deciding who to give that Mermaid’s Pendant to, think beyond the heart events. Do you want a partner who fuels your chaotic mining expeditions with bombs, or one who ensures you start every day with a fresh cup of coffee? Choose wisely, farmer. Your inventory will thank you.
