Another E3 has come and gone, and it won't be long until the hype from the biggest video game convention in the country fades and gamers around the world enter their interminable wait for their most anticipated games to be released. In order to help ease the pain, however, why not go back and revisit the great (and not-so-great) moments from E3 over the years with us? Trust us, it'll make the wait for Super Mario Odyssey a bit easier.

Nobody was expecting this. Though it was just a teaser announcement with no gameplay footage, Nintendo announced at E3 2017 that the Metroid Prime series would finally be getting a proper sequel for the first time since the Wii era.

Not content to simply announce one game in a franchise most fans thought were dead, Nintendo followed the "Metroid Prime 4" announcement with the announcement of "Metroid: Samus Returns," a re-imagining of the classic Game Boy title "Metroid 2: Return of Samus."

Final Fantasy comes to the Xbox

Just under a decade ago, it would have been unthinkable for Square's Final Fantasy franchise to appear anywhere other than Playstation systems -- it had been a Sony exclusive since "Final Fantasy 7". But in 2008, Microsoft shocked the world by announcing that "Final Fantasy XIII" would be appearing on PC and on Xbox 360 consoles.

In what was probably the most elaborate announcement for a Kickstarter campaign ever, director Yu Suzuki took the stage at 2015's E3 conference to announce that he would be developing a sequel to the cult classic RPG series Shenmue.

You'll have to bear with us, because the next three come from Sony's 2006 E3 conference, the conference that launched a thousand memes -- the first of which was "599 US dollars," the announced price point for the Playstation 3. The internet went crazy, and even remixed the famous phrase into a song.

"Riiiidge Racer!"

This led right into the next awkward moment, when Sony president Kaz Hirai displayed the power of the PSP by playing the classic game "Ridge Racer" on it. Unfortunately, as you can see in the video here, the audience wasn't as hyped about it as Kaz was.

"Giant Enemy Crab"

If you type "Giant" into Google, to this day the third suggestion is "Giant Enemy Crab." This phrase, also made famous from Sony's 2006 E3 presentation, gained infamy after the presenter claimed that all of the battles in upcoming Sony title "Genji 2" were based on real battles in ancient Japan -- and then saying "So here's this giant enemy crab." You can watch the video here.

It almost seems laughable now, but in 2009, when Microsoft announced Project Natal -- the piece of hardware that would become the Kinect -- it was mind-blowing. The Wii had only launched a few years prior, and motion controls were still in fashion, so a full-body motion sensing camera was incredibly exciting at the time.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Though it has aged very, very well, it's important to remember that the cel-shaded style of "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" was a bit divisive. So when Shigeru Miyamoto came onstage at E3 2014 with the Master Sword and Hylian Shield in hand to announce a new, darker Legend of Zelda title, the crowd went crazy.

Final Fantasy VII (Again)

Though it's been a while since any real news has come out regarding the upcoming "Final Fantasy VII" remake, there's no denying that back in 2015, when Square announced they'd be remaking the game in full HD with new play mechanics, they blew the minds of everybody in attendance at the press conference.

Sega Pulls A Fast One With The Saturn

This was a big deal, despite the subsequent failure of the Sega Saturn. Back in 1995, Sega not only announced the Sega Saturn -- their first 32-bit console -- but they also announced that it would be available at the end of their press conference. Imagine that: something exciting is announced, and it's immediately available! What a concept.

Sony Owns Microsoft On Used Games

Back in 2013, Microsoft's Xbox One was gathering no end of bad press -- primarily since it was announced that all games would be console-locked, meaning it'd be impossible to play used games on the console, or even share games with friends. In response, Sony released a lighthearted "instructional video" showing how to share games on PS4. Watch it here.

This one came out of nowhere. At 2017's E3 pressers, Sony announced that they were currently developing an HD remake of the beautiful, innovative, and classic PS2 title "Shadow of the Colossus." We can't wait.

The Last Guardian

You may not have heard of it, but "The Last Guardian" had a very rocky development cycle. It had been hotly anticipated for around a decade by fans of Team ICO's previous games like "ICO" and "Shadow of the Colossus." The game appeared cancelled, until 2015 when Sony announced that the game was indeed still in development.

Beyond Good And Evil 2

Speaking of games that were assumed dead in the water, fans of the cult classic game "Beyond Good and Evil" got a charge out of Ubisoft's 2017 E3 presser, as director Michel Ancel confirmed that, yes, "Beyond Good and Evil 2" is real, and it is still happening.

Death Stranding and the Return of Hideo Kojima
Rich Polk/Getty Images for Sony Interactive Entertainment America
You might need a bit of backstory on this one. Back in 2015 and 2016, relations between Konami and legendary Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid producer Hideo Kojima were strained. Konami ended up letting Kojima go, resulting in the cancellation of the hotly anticipated title "Silent Hills." This left gamers to wonder what was next for Kojima -- but they didn't have to wait long. At E3 2016, he burst onto the scene, announcing his own development studio in addition to "Death Stranding," a new game he would be working on alongside "The Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus.

"The Price Heard Round The World"

We're going back to 1995 again with this one. Though Sega did blow the roof off with the announcement that the Sega Saturn would be immediately available, Sony one-upped them with one word: "Two-ninety-nine" -- the price of the upcoming Playstation 2. This price point was unheard of at the time.

I'm sure this seemed like a good idea at the time. It was 2008, motion controls were still in fashion, and Nintendo wanted to show off a new game. So they put together a live demonstration of "Wii Music", an upcoming title for the Wii. It... didn't go well. You can watch the video here.

If you believe the blogs, E3 2017 was handily won by Nintendo, and a big reason why came via a throwaway sentence uttered with little explanation. Game Freak announced that they were currently developing a core Pokemon title for the Nintendo Switch console. And though the game is at least a year out from release, and we have no other information on it, Pokemon fans around the world lost their minds.

"My Body Is Ready"
Bob Riha, Jr./WireImage
This is perhaps the most famous moment in E3 history. Current Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime became a living, walking, talking meme at E3 2007 when he uttered the infamous phrase "My body is ready" before demonstrating the upcoming game "Wii Fit." To his credit, he embraced the infamy in the years after, becoming more of a public figure and presenter for Nintendo. You can watch the video here.
