If you love kicking back and watching the scenery go by as you and your trailer journey the highways through European and American landscapes, you’ll love this! The truck simulator experience is now going to be possible on your very own home console, and while these games are a niche many may not understand, for those who live and breathe them, this could be huge!

Over A Decade Of PC Dominance

It’s no surprise that PC gaming has by far the largest game library compared to the three major players COMBINED. Especially in light of all these simulator types becoming more and more prevalent, it’s no surprise that a simulator for trucking exists. Euro Truck Simulator 2, released solely on PC and Mac all the way back in 2012, and American Truck Simulator, released in 2016 for the same, both have pretty dedicated fanbases.

And now these titles are getting the chance to shine in the console spaces, allowing the potential for these communities to grow! While racing simulators have had their fair share of titles being present in both PC and console, even some being exclusively on console, these trucking simulators can now have the same opportunities. Who knows, this could spawn a new series of trucking sims in the future for consoles.

Okay, But When?

While these titles have been announced via their appearance on the consoles’ respective online stores, they are listed currently as simply “Announced,” and their dates at the time of this article have yet to be released. But that shouldn’t worry you simulator folk too much. As it stands, it’s confirmed, and all you need to do is be a bit patient!

Okay, But Why Truck Simulators?

Great question! And I think there are plenty who may scoff at the idea of a video game where 90% of what you do is simply drive. Is there a story? Not really, only your own stories of your journeys on the open road. Are you running away from the cops à la Grand Theft Auto? Nope! “Then why play these games?” you may ask. Well, the answer is quite simple. It’s relaxing. It brings these enthusiasts a sense of zen where they can just go on a virtual journey, listen to music, and watch the scenery go by while contemplating their place in the universe.

When you boil it down, it’s not all that different from titles like Stardew Valley, where the goal is just having a chill and cozy time. For some, that coziness exists within their 18-wheeler cabin with the radio on. And the fact that this may now be more accessible to those who only own a console could be big for the genre. In the modern era of games where things need to be big, explosive, and bombastic, it’s nice to know others exist just to chill and hang out.
