Week 5, Day 3 of the LEC Spring Split 2. SK vs TH.  SK’s roster is JNX (top), Boukada (jungle), RKR (mid), Keduii (bot), and Loopy (support).  TH’s roster is Carlsen (top), Sheo (jungle), Kamiloo (mid), Flakked (bot), and Stend (support).  SK is 2-3, TH is 3-3.

Game 1: Piltover Piledriver!

  • TH draft a follow the leader comp.  When Vi goes in, so does everyone else.  SK attempt to counter this with strong mobility and peel.  While SK do have ways of removing themselves from a fight, if they aren’t able to, they might find things a little hairy for them.
  • At first, it looks as though SK ability to disengage from a fight would net the results they desired.  They quickly manage to rack up a few kills thanks to their mobility.  However, several members of SK get caught out of position twice and killed, giving TH a window of opportunity to claw back some gold for themselves.
  • The game enters a back-and-forth state where both teams gain and loss advantages.  This state of equilibrium is broken when TH first win a massive team fight thanks to clever positioning, take Baron, then take Elder, and finally take the game.

Game 2: Defense is the Best Offense

  • Both teams draft strong team fighting comps, with strong front line and a good about of CC.  TH main difference is that SK, with the Rakan, are looking to be more proactive, while TH, with the Braum, are somewhat more reactive.
  • SK are particularly aggressive during the early game but TH are able to weather the storm well and even manage to come out ahead.  The game is rather low in kills until a fight at Dragon Pit to prevent TH from getting the Dragon Soul.  TH manage to ACE SK and take the Soul.  As it is a Mountain Soul, TH’s nature tankiness is increased considerable, making them even harder to kill than before.
  • Off the back of the ACE at Dragon Pit, TH roam over and take the Baron.  Using the two Buff, they then erase SK from the map and close out the game.

Post Game Analysis: LEC’s Standing is Becoming Set in Stone

  • In the first game, TH demonstrate why vision is so important.  SK drafted a comp that could easily disengage from a fight.  The problem is, they disengaged directly into the waiting arms of the rest of the TH team.
  • In the second game, punish SK early aggression, bidding their time and creating their own advantages.  Once they got hold of the map, they didn’t let go.  SK has good ideas but they need to work on their execution.  And their ward.
  • After this game TH is 4-3 and tied with MKOI for 3rd.  SK is 2-4 and in 8th place.  It’s unlikely that SK will be able to win enough games to advance to the next stage of the competition.
