Week 2, Day 3 of the LTA North Split 3. LYON vs TL. LYON’s roster is Srtty (top), Oddielan (jungle), Saint (mid), Hena (bot), and Lyonz (support). TL’s roster is Impact (top), Yuuji (jungle), APA (mid), Yeon (bot), and CoreJJ (support). For more information on what Early, Mid, and Late Game means, see Terms at the bottom of the article.

Game 1: LYON Strike Hard and Fast

The 1st set of bans takes out Poppy, Pantheon, Rumble, Yone, Neeko, and Gwen from the equation. The 2nd set removes Trundle and Xin Zhao (LYON’s was late in submitting their roster change and lost their 2nd phase bans). LYON draft pick and poke with Renekton (Top), Skarner (Jungle), Azir (Mid), Varus (Bot), and Rell (Support). TL also go for a pick and poke team of Gragas (Top), Vi (Jungle), Taliyah (Mid), Jhin (Bot), and Alistar (Support).

Game starts out with a Pause because Yeon has a Mouse issue. Once the game gets started, there is a lot of scrapping but no blood. LYON secures the 1st Drake (Ocean) uncontested. A fight in Top Lane leads to Srtty claiming 1st Blood, only to die to Yuuji soon after.

A fight in TL’s Red Jungle results in Yuuji being Impaled and then killed. Yeon retaliates by taking out Oddielan. He then gets caught out and killed in Top Lane. TL then starts up the Voidgrubs but only manages to secure 1 before LYON pushes them off and claims the remaining 2. Early Game ends with LYON ahead in gold by 600 and ahead in kills by 3-2.

LYON starts up the 2nd Drake (Infernal) uncontested. As the objective goes down, CoreJJ dives in to start up a fight that goes 4-0 for LYON. When Rift Herald spawns, LYON are the ones to start it up. They secure it uncontested and then kill APA, who was scouting. Impact gets caught out as he tries to Proxy a wave in Top Lane and is killed by Hena. LYON then rotates Mid, drops the Herald, and uses it to take a chunk out of the Outer Turret.

TL starts up a fight in Mid Lane by picking off Hena. Despite the loss of their ADC, LYON counterengage. They kill 2 and lose 1 more, so the fight ends in a draw. However, LYON has better positioning and are able to rotate down immediately after the fight and secure the 3rd Drake (Mountain) uncontested. Mid Game ends with LYON still ahead in gold (by 3.4k) and kills (11-5).

LYON takes the Atakhan extremely quickly. TL aren’t able to contest. After taking the objective, LYON chases after TL and kills Yuuji. In Top Lane, Srtty gets ganged up on by 3 members of TL. Though he dies, he is able to delay them for a significant amount of time, allowing his team to take the Inner Bot Turret without issue and to set up for the upcoming Drake.

TL tries to ambush LYON in Bot River, but they get spotted by the Oddielan’s Sweeper. TL engage anyway. Thanks, Saint’s Emperor’s Divide, APA is sent flying into LYON waiting arms. He dies, TL backs off, and LYON claims the Drake for Mountain Soul. LYON starts up Baron but peels off and engages with TL when they arrive to contest. TL holds them at bay, and both teams end up backing off with no one taking the Baron.

LYON returns to the Baron a little later. Though they start it up and manage to keep Yuuji out of the Pit, CoreJJ is able to Steal Baron from them (Unsealed Spellbook Smite). In retaliation, LYON kills him and Impact. The score is now 15-6 in LYON’s favor. Despite gaining the Baron Buff, TL aren’t able to do much with it (they get 1 Turret).

The next major fight breaks out over the Elder Dragon. LYON takes out Impact, pushes TL away, and claims the objective. They then chase after the retreating TL. They grab 3 more kills before dismantling TL’s Base and ending the game at 31:36 with a 9.2k gold lead. The final score was 19-6.

Game 2: Yeon Pops Off

The 1st set of bans takes out Poppy, Pantheon, Aurora, Ziggs, Yone, and Rumble from the equation. The 2nd set removes Neeko, Ezreal, Rakan, and Senna. TL draft a wombo combo team of Gwen (Top), Wukong (Jungle), Annie (Mid), Yunara (Bot), and Renata (Support). LYON opt for more mobility and tankiness with their picks of Ambessa (Top), Trundle (Jungle), Galio (Mid), Corki (Bot), and Nautilus (Support).

Oddielan ganks Bot Lane at level 3, allowing Hena to kill Yeon for 1st Blood. In Top Lane, Srtty almost kills Impact 1v1, but Yuuji arrives and kills him instead. LYON claims the 1st Drake (Cloud) uncontested. At about 8 minutes into the game, LYON dives Impact under the Turret and kills him. They then back off afterwards, which allows Yuuji to secure all 3 Voidgrubs. Early Game ends with LYON getting another kill on Impact. They are now up 3-1 in kills and 700 gold.

TL starts up the 2nd Drake (Hextech), but LYON arrives to try and push them off of it. Lyonz starts things off with a hook, but TL are able to turn the tables on LYON and end up winning the fight 2-0, and also manage to secure the Drake. Both teams get a kill at the same time, raising the score to 4-4. Lyonz gets caught out and dies in his Red Side Jungle. Afterwards, TL immediately rotates over and claims the Rift Herald uncontested.

Oddielan gets caught out of position in his Blue Side Jungle, leading to a fight that goes 3-1 in TL’s favor. After both teams back off, TL drops the Rift Herald in Mid Lane and then heads straight for the 3rd Drake (Chemtech) and takes it uncontested. Rift Herald isn’t able to take the Outer Turret. The Mid Game ends with TL ahead in gold by 400 and ahead in kills 8-5.

Lyonz gets caught out in Bot River. Though it looks like LYON might be able to turn the fight around, TL comes out ahead with an ACE. The score is now 13-5. TL immediately rotate down and takes the Atakhan afterwards. Yuuji gets caught out, but yet again, TL turns the fight around and instead claims a kill of their own on to Oddielan. While the rest of his time takes the Outer Top Turret, Impact gets attacked in Mid Lane 3v1. Though he dies, he still manages to take Hena with him. The score is now 15-6.

In response to the TL ganging up on Impact, LYON dives Saint under the Turret and kills him 3v1. In Mid Lane, APA gets brought low, tries to pull off an upset, but dies before he can get it off. TL starts up the 4th Drake. LYON arrives to contest. A fight breaks out, which LYON wins 2-0. They also secure the objective. Owing to their control of the map, TL are able to claim Baron uncontested.

TL catches out and kills 2 members of LYON and then, using Baron Buff, Yeon and CoreJJ bust their way into LYON’s Base through the Bot Lane. When Lyonz arrives to try and defend, Yeon kills him. TL then takes the Base Mid Turret, the Mid Inhibitor, the lower Nexus Turret, and the Base Top Turret before they are forced to back off. LYON chases after the retreating TL.

They kill Yuuji and CoreJJ. They almost kill Yeon, but he’s saved the Bailout. With him still alive, TL turns the fight around. They initially come out of it ahead 4-2, but Yeon stays in the area too long and Srtty kills him, so the fight actually ends up going 4-3 for TL. With only Srtty alive to defend, Impact skips his way into LYON’s Base and ends the game at 29:19. TL’s gold lead is 9k, and the final score was 25-10.

Game 3: LYON Slaughter TL

The 1st set of bans takes out Rumble, Pantheon, Ziggs, Yone, Neeko, and Oriana from the equation. The 2nd set removes Rakan, Braum, Senna, and Ezreal. LYON draft a strong team fight/run down comp of Sion (Top), Poppy (Jungle), Aurora (Mid), Jinx (Bot), and Leona (Support). TL opt comp that focuses on disruption as they draft K’Sante (Top), Xin Zhao (Jungle), Ryze (Mid), Aphelios (Bot), and Thresh (Support).

CoreJJ lands a hook onto Lyonz in the Bot Lane. This leads to Lyonz dying to Yeon for 1st Blood and then CoreJJ dying to Hena in retaliation. TL takes the 1st Drake (Cloud) uncontested. Yuuji attempts to invade LYON’s Blue Jungle and dies to Saint as a result. Early Game ends with LYON ahead in gold by 600 and also ahead in kills by 2-1.

LYON starts up the 2nd Drake (Infernal). Oddielan uses Keeper’s Verdict to remove Yuuji from the area while Srtty and Saint work together to kill Yeon. They then grab 2 more kills before securing the objective. The score is now 5-1. TL tries to ambush LYON, but the bush they are hiding in is a ward. LYON turns the tables on them and engages. The fight goes 2-0 for LYON, who immediately takes the Rift Herald afterwards.

A fight over the 3rd Drake (Mountain) results in LYON picking up 2 more kills, as well as the Drake. They then drop the Rift Herald in Bot Lane and use it to take the Inner Bot Turret. Mid Game ends with LYON ahead in gold by 4.8k and ahead in kills by 9-1.

Late Game starts off with more blood as a fight in Top Lane leads to the deaths of Yeon and CoreJJ. LYON gets overly confident, however, and falls for a bait. This results in Hena and Lyonz dying. The next point of contention is Atakhan. LYON starts it up, but TL arrives to contest. Despite TL’s poking, LYON secures the Atakhan. The ensuing fight goes 2-1 in LYON’s favor. Afterwards, LYON grabs the newly spawned 4th Drake uncontested.

Everything settles down until Baron. LYON starts it up. TL tries to stop them from taking. They are able to kill Lyonz off the bat, but then 3 people Realm Warp into the middle of the retreating LYON team. Yuuji dies immediately. He’s followed by the rest of his team as LYON ACE TL and takes the Baron.

With Baron Buff, LYON takes the Base Mid Turret and Mid Inhibitor before rotating down and taking the 5th Drake to gain Mountain Soul. They then head back up to TL’s Base, destroy the Bot Base Turret and Inhibitor, grab 4 kills, lose 2 to the fountain (because why not), and end the game at 30:37 with a 10.8k gold lead. The final score was 22-6.

Post Series Analysis: A Bit of a Shake Up In the LTA North This Week

This series very easily could have been a 2-game series. Based on how LYON’s played in Games 1 and 3, had they actually inflicted some damage in Game 2, they probably could have won. LYON had better team fighting and vision control than TL. And, unlike TL, when members of LYON were caught out, they were able to turn the fight around in their favor. TL, unfortunately for them, was not.
