Week 1, Day 1 of LTA North Split 3. FLY vs DSG. FLY’s roster is Bwipo (Top), Inspired (Jungle), Quad (Mid), Massu (Bot), and Busio (Support). DSG’s roster is Castle (Top), eXyu (Jungle), DARKWINGS (Mid), Rahel (Bot), and huhi (Support). For more information on what Early, Mid, and Late Game means, see Terms at the bottom of the article.
The 1st set of bans takes out Gwen, Pantheon, Senna, Azir, Vi, and Taliyah from the equation. The 2nd set removes Rumble, Jhin, Sett, and Ezreal. FLY draft an anti-engage comp of Swain (Top), Xin Zhao (Jungle), Annie (Mid), Varus (Bot), and Rakan (Support). DSG, on the other hand, drafts a high engaged team of Sion (Top), Wukong (Jungle), Aurora (Mid), Sivir (Bot), and Alistar (Support).
The Early Game is pretty uneventful. The gold is even for the most of it, but after claiming both the 1st Drake (Infernal) and all 3 Voidgrubs, FLY is able to eke out a small lead of 500 gold. No kills as of yet.
First bit of legitimate action occurs in Bot Lane towards the beginning of the mid-game. huhi and eXyu try to gank Massu and Busio, but the Bot Duo of FLY is able to turn it around and take down huhi for 1st Blood. FLY takes the 2nd Drake (Mountain). The fight that follows raises the score to 4-2 in FLY’s favor. FLY also secures the Rift Herald and 1st Turret in Top Lane. In an attempt to stem the bleed, DSG ganks and kills Quad twice and secures the 3rd Drake (Chemtech) for themselves to close out the mid-game.
FLY drops the Rift Herald in Mid, though they don’t get the Turret right away. They do eventually take it, while also managing to lock down and pick off DARKWINGS at the same time. 4 members of DSG try to catch out Bwipo, but he manages to stay alive long enough for his team to arrive. FLY is then able to turn the tables, getting 4 kills and raising the score to 9-4 in their favor. They then secure the Atakhan uncontested.
An invasion of DSG’s Blue Side Jungle leads to another 4 kills for FLY. In response, DSG attempts a gank onto Busio in the Mid Lane, but he’s able to kite and buy time for his team to arrive. Though Massue dies, FLY gets another 3 kills and immediately rotates over to secure Baron. The score is now 16-5. Using Baron Buff, FLY breaks into DSG’s Base through Mid Lane, gets 4 more kills, and ends the game at 28:08. The final score was 20-6 (Massu died during the final push).
The 1st set of bans take out Neeko, Pantheon, Vi, Aphelios, Taliyah, and Lucian from the equation. The 2nd set removes Ka’sai, Miss Fortune, Nautilu, and Jhin. DSG, yet again, goes for a strong engagement with Jax (Top), Sejuani (Jungle), Azir (Mid), Corki (Bot), and Rell (Support). FLY opt for zoning and mobility, their picks of Rumble (Top), Maokai (Jungle), Yone (Mid), Ezreal (Bot), and Braum (Support). Bwipo was subbed out for Gakgos in the Top Lane.
As with Game 1, the Early Game is uneventful. The main difference is that there is a trade of objectives. FLY are able to secure the 1st Drake (Cloud) again, but this time, DSG are the ones who take all 3 Voidgrubs. The score at the end of the Early Game is 0-0, with FLY slightly ahead in gold by 300.
The mid-game, yet again, starts out with blood. At 1v1 in Top Lane leads to Castle taking out Gakgos for 1st Blood. Even though Inspired arrives afterwards to try and get a kill back, Castle is able to escape. As both teams set up for the 2nd Drake (Mountain), a botched engage by DSG leads to FLY getting 3 kills and securing the objective uncontested. The final minutes of the mid-game see FLY taking all 3 Outer Turrets (Rift Herald was used to take the Mid Turret, as well as kills for both sides. The final score as the game enters the Late Game is 6-4 with FLY now ahead by 6.8k gold.
Late Game starts out with FLY securing the 3rd Drake (Infernal). They then move over and start up the Atakhan. Thanks to Nature’s Grasp, DSG aren’t even able to attempt a Smite-Steal. An attempt to catch out Massu leads to DSG being the ones caught out and slaughtered. After winning the fight 4-1, FLY rotates over and claims the Baron. eXyu tries to intervene but dies before he can do anything, turning the win into an ACE.
Using Baron Buff, FLY takes the Inner Mid Turret, then rotates down to siege the Base Bot Turret. While defending, Castle lands a 4-man Stun. Though Inspired is taken down, the rest of FLY are able to turn the fight back in their favor. They end up winning it 3-1. They then take the Turret and the Inhibitor before rotating back to Mid and taking the Turret and Inhibitor there as well.
FLY attempts to back off, but DSG pursues and keeps them from doing so. FLY retaliates by getting several more kills and ending the game at 30:28. The final score was 20-6 with FLY ahead by 5.7k gold.
Despite some minor Early Game success in both games, DSG is simply no match for FLY’s experience and teamwork. Furthermore, DSG’s aggression bit them hard in the behind. Specifically, their attempt to gank Bwipo (who was playing Swain) with 4 people. The more people you send after Swain, the harder it is to kill him.
Even with FLY subbing in Gakgos, DSG lacked the coordination needed to come out ahead. That being said, it’s hard not to wonder if Castle would have still managed to claim 1st Blood if he had been facing Bwipo instead. Gakgos may not have impeded FLY, but he still needs a little work to reach Bwipo’s level of gameplay.
