Champion Selection: This is Going to Be Bloody

The 1st set of bans for this final game are Maokai, Pantheon, Neeko, Varus, Kai’Sa, and Lee Sin.

T1 has 1st pick, and they lock in Renekton. GEN.G opts to go for Nidalee and Aatrox. T1 responds with Caitlyn and Karma. GEN.G closes out the 1st set of picks by grabbing Aurora.

GEN.G takes aim at Mid Lane with their 2nd set of bans, removing Twisted Fate and Yone. T1, instead, targets Support as they ban away Blitzcrank and Leona.

GEN.G takes Miss Fortune as the 2nd set of picks begins. T1 rounds out their team with Viego and Ahri. GEN.G finishes things up with Pyke. Both team comps are very aggressive and have strong pick options. T1 has better peel, but GEN.G has stronger snowballing potential.

Team comps are: T1 – Renekton (top), Viego (jungle), Ahri (mid), Caitlyn (bot), Karma (support) vs GEN.G – Aatrox (top), Nidalee (jungle), Aurora (mid), Miss Fortune (bot), Pyke (support).

Early Game Highlights: That Was Excessive

Poking and farming to start things off. Fortunately, no interview this time.

Oner ganks Kiin and Top Lane with Doran and kills him for 1st Blood.

GEN.G sends 4 members Top to gank Gumayusi and Keria. They both fall to Ruler. In response, T1 takes the 1st Drake (Infernal) uncontested.

Oner secures 1 of the Voidgrubs before backing off (he lacks vision of all of GEN.G’s members).

Canyon gets caught in Top River by Keria’s Focused Resolve and dies to Oner, who immediately takes the remaining 2 Grubs.

Early Game ends with T1 ahead in gold by just 400 and also ahead in farm.

Mid Game Highlights: Objectives Go the Way of GEN.G

Skirmish breaks out around the Dragon Pit. Neither team fully commits (mostly because they don’t land their Skill Shots), but T1 end up being lower in Health, so they have to back off. GEN.G are able to secure the 2nd Drake (Chemtech) uncontested.

GEN.G starts up the Rift Herald. T1 arrives to contest, but it is secured by Canyon. Doran dives in to start up a fight. Faker takes out Kiin, but Doran dies to Canyon immediately afterwards. Chovy takes out Oner as well. T1 has to retreat. Fight goes 2-1 GEN.G, who secure the Rift Herald as well.

GEN.G drops the Herald in Mid Lane and uses it to take the Outer Turret.

3 members of GEN.G go Top to answer the 4 members of T1 who are pushing the wave. They manage to catch Doran and chunk him down. He eventually dies to Kiin.

GEN.G claims the 3rd Drake (Mountain) uncontested.

Mid Game ends with GEN.G now the ones ahead in gold (by 1.5k). The farm is even.

Late Game Highlights: Objectives are the Name of the Game

T1 starts up the Atakhan. GEN.G arrives to contest. Ruler uses Bullet Time to push T1 away from the objective, allowing Canyon to get in and Smite-Steal it away. Gumayusi then gets caught in Chovy’s Ultimate and dies to Kiin. The rest of T1 get away, but GEN.G get the Atakhan.

GEN.G starts up the 4th Drake. T1 arrives to contest but aren’t able to find an angle. GEN.G secures the objective. As the drake falls, Faker and Oner go in. Oner is able to take out Canyon but dies to Kiin a split second later. Doran gets yanked back as he tries to run and dies to Kiin as well. The rest of T1 gets away. Fight goes 2-1 for GEN.G, who are now on Soul Point.

As both teams set up around Baron, Doran gets pulled in by Duro and gets chunked low. He ends up dying to Kiin, who also takes out Oner. The rest of T1 are forced to retreat, and GEN.G claims the Baron. Fight goes 2-0 for GEN.G

Using the Baron Buff, GEN.G are able to take the Inner Bot and Mid Turrets. With T1’s vision now strangled, GEN.G are to take the 5th Drake completely uncontested. They now have Mountain Soul.

GEN.G try to siege T1’s Base Mid Turret. Though they are able to do a hefty amount of damage to it, T1 are able to defend and push them away.

GEN.G starts up the Baron. T1 arrives to try and stop them, but Oner steps forward a little too far and get jumped on. He dies to Canyon. The rest of T1 backs off, and GEN.G claims their 2nd Baron.

With Baron Buff, GEN.G push in T1’s Base through Top by taking the Base Turret and Inhibitor. They then move over and take the Mid Base Turret and Inhibitor. With those structures down, they focus on siege the Nexus Turrets.

They take the Upper Nexus and, as they start to work on the Lower one, a fight breaks out. Kiin is able to get into the backline of T1 and takes out Gumayusi and Keria. Chovy kills Faker as Canyon drops the last Nexus Turret. Kiin gets one more kill on to Doran before the game ends.

Post Game Analysis: GEN.G Pulls Off Another MSI Win

GEN.G ends the game at 35:17 with a 14.3k gold lead. The final score was 15-4 for GEN.G.

T1 got outplayed, plain and simple. Duro was able to land several important hooks that dragged important players into the waiting arms of his team. This leads to GEN.G being able to claim objectives with ease.

It also helps that GEN.G rotated over to objectives faster than T1, which is an issue T1 has had for a long time. They don’t seem to put as much stock in objectives as other teams, and it often bites them in the butt. Going forward, T1 needs to work on that, and Doran, in particular, needs to work on his positioning. He got caught out far too many times this series.
