Ubisoft Confirms Beloved Prince of Persia Remake Launching Very Soon

Five long years have passed since Ubisoft announced the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Despite the long wait, however, the studio’s Chief Financial Officer, Frederick Duguet, revealed the game is releasing “very soon” during a recent investor meeting. With the developers targeting a 2026 launch window, why would remaking an existing game require such an extended six-year development period? Even more bizarre, the project underwent a complete reboot in 2023, potentially showing that it could be released sooner.

Ubisoft Montreal Takes Over Troubled Remake Project

To be fair, Ubisoft never officially explained the reasons for restarting the development of The Sands of Time remake entirely midway through the project’s life. Due to a lack of information, fans were left baffled by the game’s renewed interest, which occurred between the initial 2020 announcement and the present day. While answering an investor’s question concerning Tencent’s investment in Ubisoft and the new Tencent-backed subsidiary, Duguet commented on the game’s release. According to the CFO, the remake was a prime example of leveraging iconic franchises with relatively modest investment.

Additionally, the Sands of Time remake was mentioned alongside the even more elusive Splinter Cell remake during the meeting, highlighting another long-awaited project. Although Splinter Cell was announced in 2021, it still lacks any concrete release date or window. Indeed, the last communication regarding Splinter Cell was a single social media post showing protagonist Sam Fisher’s face just before the Summer Game Fest 2025. Unfortunately, no follow-up information about the particular game has yet to be provided since then.

Sands of Time Remake Targets 2026 Release Window

Meanwhile, Ubisoft reassured concerned fans back in June that The Sands of Time remake remained active and healthy despite the noticeable lack of updates from the studio. Furthermore, the company stated that they were deeply involved in the game at that time, actively exploring, building, and ensuring the core mechanics functioned purposefully. So, while the recent “very soon” statement may seem vague, fans were given the first concrete indication of a nearing release following years of silence and the significant disruption caused by the 2023 development reboot. With this long-extended journey underway, they now wait to see if the company can finally deliver the long-promised remake.

The Prince of Persia franchise has experienced various transformations and redesigns over the years. Still, these numerous changes and adaptations did little to stop The Sands of Time‘s standing as the best game in the series. While fans widely celebrate this fourth entry, critics consistently praise the game above all others. After all, the game fundamentally shifted the experience of the adventure genre, representing a completely fresh kind of game. With Ubisoft’s promises that the long-awaited remake remains actively in development, fans everywhere are highly anticipating reliving the remake version of this classic game since its original release in 2003.
