The Valorant dev team revealed some exciting news: Patch 8.11 is on its way! Dive into all the updates and changes the developers have in store for us below.

What’s New In Valorant Patch 8.11

Last Tuesday, May 21, 2024, the Valorant dev team posted a video laying out a roadmap for the game and giving an update about the latest Valorant Patch 8.11. The dev posted the update on the game’s official account on X (formerly known as Twitter). Within the video, the development team discussed various topics concerning the game. However, the main focus of the discussion is about the upcoming map rotation, agent changes, weapon skins, and replay systems. Let’s look into this more clearly.

Valorant Patch 8.11 – Map Rotations

There are currently 10 maps in Valorant. However, the competitive map pool rotation only includes 7 maps: Icebox, Lotus, Bind, Sunset, Breeze, Ascent, and Split.

The Valorant dev team confirmed on their announcement video that fans can look forward to another map rotation in the upcoming patch 8.11. It has been six months since the dev gave us a map rotation.

In the announcement video, Game Designer Dan Hardison and Product Manager Coleman Palm discussed the upcoming map rotation.

“We’ve heard a lot of feedback from you all about map rotations lately, and we have been talking as a team about how we can make this experience better overall. Rest assured that your feedback has been heard loud and clear,” said the game designer.

The dev continued, “As a starting point, we are going to be more transparent around map rotations going forward so you all know when they are happening ahead of time. In the spirit of this, we want to confirm that the map pool will be rotating with Patch 8.11 in early June. Breeze and Split will be rotating out, and Haven will be rotating back in.”

It has been six months since Valorant has seen a map rotation, as the last time was in January 2024. For competitive players, the six-month period without map rotation was beneficial as it allowed them to maintain consistency and practice extensively on the same maps. However, for casual players, playing on the same seven maps for six months can be incredibly frustrating.

Furthermore, there has also been a mention of a new map coming this Patch 8.11. This new map, called Bastion, will be officially revealed on the Valorant Masters Shanghai 2024. This gives the players a first look at the map ahead of the 8.11 update.

Valorant Patch 8.11 – Agent Nerfs and Buffs

As Valorant players, we all get hyped when we receive news about Agent nerfs and buffs in the game’s patches. Who wouldn’t be? It gives us players a more exciting gaming experience when our agents receive changes. However, that can’t be the case with Valorant. We can’t always expect nerfs and buffs every time the dev team announces game updates.

Moving on, the dev team also talked about giving the game balance. The upcoming update will focus primarily on increasing the diversity of the duelist role in the game. This will be achieved by giving nerfs and buffs to some agents in that role.

“Over time, we’ve seen pick diversity decline among Duelists, especially in higher-skill and pro-play brackets,” said Coleman.

Because of this, Agent Raze will receive some nerfs “focused on her satchel ability”, as she has been “an overly dominant pick in this space,” Coleman added.

On the other hand, the dev team mentioned that they are also planning to give buffs to three agents in the upcoming patch 8.11.

The dev team also said that they will focus buffs on abilities that make each agent unique. Iso will receive a buff centered on his Shield Paradigm, while Neon will get a buff for her Slide.

Surprisingly, the dev team also plans on giving Reyna a buff in Patch 8.11. Although she is already considered a strong-ranked agent, Reyna struggles in “coordinated teamplay” environments such as Premier and Pro-play. To address this, the dev team aims to focus her buff to improve her viability in team settings.

In addition to the buffs mentioned earlier, each agent will also undergo some minor adjustments. Although we have an idea as to which agents will be receiving buffs, the exact nerfs and buffs are still yet to be determined.

Upcoming Weapon Skins

Valorant has gained a reputation for its extravagant weapon skins. Undoubtedly, each of us has a favorite skin that resonates with our style, whether it complements our wardrobe, aligns with our aesthetic preferences, or simply captures the vibes we want to express in-game. We can proudly showcase our choices through the diverse range of weapon skins available in Valorant.

In line with this, Product Manager of Valorant Cosmetics Preeti Khanolkar and Art Director of Cosmetics Sean Marino brought out discussion on weapons skins in their latest dev diary video update.

They said that Valorant players have “a much more diverse” taste in tactical shooting game weapon skins. However, there’s a question that they have been hearing over and over again:

“Where are the pink skins?”

The dev team plans to address this by saying that the Mystbloom skin is just their “first take on pink skins” and that “it won’t be the last”.

There was also a discussion about “high-tier skin lines of all time” expanding to include a new Outlaw skin.

With this, we can expect more pink skins and Outlaw skins will be coming to Valorant, although the dev team didn’t clarify when.

Valorant Replay System

As players, we can say that aside from enjoying Valorant, we also would want to know how to improve our gameplay. And what better way to study and improve your plays than to watch a match replay, right?

Thankfully, Valorant Tech Lead Marcus Reid talked about the prototype Replay system on Valorant. However, it’s important to note that this Replay system is nowhere near launch.

The reason for this is that there are still a lot of problems and defects that show up in the prototype.

“There are a plethora of issues with maps, abilities, weapons, as well as visual and audio effects that we need to work through to make them replay-ready,” said Reid.

Knowing the dev team, they won’t be releasing something unless they have made sure that everything is running smoothly and perfectly.

Overall, the recent update given to us by the dev team on their dev diary gave us a glimpse of what we can expect on the upcoming Valorant Patch 8.11, and more.

The dev team also promises that there will be no more changes until after the Valorant Masters Shanghai, but we can still expect to see smaller patches rolling out.

Additionally, the dev team noted that they are “working on some pretty exciting stuff” for after Valorant Champions that players will “get to play closer to the end of the year”.

What’s next for Valorant?

In conclusion, the Valorant 8.11 update promises to bring significant changes to the game’s meta. These adjustments not only aim to enhance gameplay variety and strategy but also demonstrate Riot Games’ commitment to refining and evolving Valorant for its dedicated player base.

There’s a lot to look forward to in Valorant’s future updates. From new agents and maps to gameplay tweaks and balance adjustments, the game is always evolving. It keeps things fresh and exciting for players while maintaining its core tactical shooting experience.

That would be all the information that we have with regards to the Valorant Patch 8.11. We are still waiting for more official updates from the dev team. For now, let us all enjoy the current version of the game (get as many Raze clips as we can) until the next update, which is in the next few weeks!
