Tekken 8 has seen some rocky times since the release of Season 2. Developers have faced significant backlash from fans regarding the game’s recent balance changes and have begun to question the direction of the development team. During one of the biggest events in the calendar year for fighting game fans, EVO Japan, Tekken 8 developers unveiled Fahkumram as the summer DLC character for Season 2. This further stoked the flames of community outrage, but little was shown about the new character at EVO Japan.

Bandai-Namco has now released the full gameplay trailer for Fahkumram. The trailer was released at Combo Breaker, another one of the year’s premier fighting game events. This time, as Tekken 8 developers took the stage, they made their reveals in front of a live American audience. You could hear the roars of approval and sometimes outbursts of disapproval from the audience as the crowd got the first look at how Fahkumram will play in-game.
Many fans would not have chosen Fahkumram for Tekken 8 due to wanting old cast members to reappear. Others thought it was a bad time to reveal a character who was synonymous with some of the balance issues in the previous entry in the Tekken franchise.
Fahkumram’s moveset certainly made an impact on the live crowd for better or for worse, however. The character’s model in Tekken 8 is a massive, superhuman-looking figure. He stands in a hunched-over muay-thai stance and still towers over almost the entire cast. He uses his elbows, knees, and kicks in much of his moveset. As expected from a muay-thai fighter but his overwhelming physical presence and muscular physique have allowed developers to put a few Tekken 8-style spins on the martial art.
Fahkumram can flex his muscles, turning his chest a deep red color, and counter opponent attacks. The live crowd “ooh-ed” in disbelief as Fahkumram seemed to just sheer force away opponent attacks. His rage art also reflects the physical dominance and presence of the character as the cinematic cutscene plays out like something more from Mortal Kombat than from Tekken 8.
Overall, Tekken 8 Season 2 has been improving with balance patches over time, and many players agree it’s improving. The thing that competitors at fighting game events like Combo Breaker don’t want is for a character to be released that undoes the work that has been put into fixing the disaster that happened with this game in Season 2. Fahkumram won’t be playable in Tekken 8 until July 17, and we will see what impact he has on the balance and meta of Tekken 8 when that time comes.
