While Smite’s enhancements only come into effect against the undead mobs, Sharpness will increase your damage in every battle, regardless of the character you are facing.

Experienced Minecraft users prefer the Sharpness V enchantment on their primary weapon of choice. Meanwhile, they also keep another weapon in their inventory with Smite V in case they come across any undead mobs.

The best weapon to Smite is an axe, since its base damage is already at a high level. Meanwhile, Sharpness goes with just about any weapon, except the ranged ones, just like Smite.
