The first week of LTA North, the best of 3 matches has concluded. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the Top 4 teams are the old hats of C9, TL, DIG, and FLY. In the bot, we have 100T, DSG, SR, and LYON. There’s not too much that can be gleaned from just one week of play, but there are still a few things that need to be addressed.
C9 has shown itself to be the strongest of the 4 Top teams thus far. They were easily able to dominate DSG in their games. That said, they are the most experienced team, so it’s not entirely unexpected. They need to be tested against a stronger team in order to truly get a measure of their strength.
Despite going 2-0 against LYON this week, TL did not look as strong as they should have. They won their first game because LYON effectively handed it to them. And their 2nd game was somehow even closer.
If TL continues to play at this level, they will be no match for the other Top 4 teams, especially C9.
DIG has the distinction of being the only top team to go 2-1 this week. Their first game against SR is a stomp. They managed to win the next game due to 2 factors. First, they drafted tanks and just outlasted SR. Second, SR is still new and slightly hesitant to engage at times. Had either of these elements not been present, DIG would have lost
DIG needs to work on its macro. As for now, they are probably the weakest of the Top 4.
So far, FLY seems the most able to adapt. After almost losing to 100T in game 1, they were able to find a way to dominate in game 2. They may need to work on spreading out their power. As of right now, they seem to be too reliant on Bwipo to save the day.
DSG had an admirable showing, all things considered. They were heavily outplayed by C9 in the first game, but were able to make up some ground in the second. This demonstrates at least some level of adaptability and growth.
While I don’t think they will necessarily make it to the next level of competition this year, I think that they have the potential to do so next year if they keep working and improving.
There’s aggression and then their foolishness. LYON crossed that line this week. I know that there was commentary that they didn’t have all the information and thus made bad calls. I have a simple response to that: “If you don’t have the information, do make the risky call.”
LYON needs to work on pulling back and being happy with what they achieved. Remember, the objective of the game is to destroy the Nexus, not to get the most kills.
SR shows promise. They are the only Bottom team that actually won a match last weekend, and they did so by completely outplaying their opponent. As of right now, hesitancy seems to be their enemy. If they can find a way to gain more confidence, they might be able to challenge for a top position.
Of all the games, 100T’s were the ones I was most disappointed in. They lost one interaction in the first game, and suddenly their mentality crumbled. If they had focused up, they could have found a way to recover and still win.
As for the second game… If you are drafting for a specific win condition, you need to play towards it. If you are going to draft for split-pushing, then you need to split-push. 100T handed FLY everything they could have wanted in that game by fighting. Gotta work on that mental game, boys.
