Like many others, I’m still waiting for a Nintendo Switch 2. I wasn’t lucky enough to snag a preorder and ever since the console was released a month ago, they’ve been sold out everywhere. Well, it looks like the Switch 1 will be getting some more use since the scarcity of Switch 2s could last until spring.
According to The Gamer, two industry analysts have predicted that the console shortage could last until Spring, 2026, making unlucky fans wait almost a whole year before they can purchase that much-coveted Switch 2. Nintendo’s official site currently has a waiting list to order the Switch 2, where you will be sent an “invitation email” when it’s your turn to order. The imbalance of supply and demand has gotten so bad that Nintendo’s CEO has issued an apology to those who haven’t been able to purchase the system.
The Nintendo Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million units in its first four days, making it Nintendo’s fastest-selling system of all time. If it keeps up this momentum, it could surpass the PlayStation 2 as the best-selling video game console of all time. Scalpers are selling the system for as much as $1,000, twice as much as the sales price. Meanwhile, millions of people are left wondering when they will be able to play Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza.
I wrote an article for Total Apex about my woes with being unable to secure a Switch 2, and a month later, my situation is still the same. It looks like my Switch 1 will still be getting plenty of use for a while. If you haven’t been able to secure a Nintendo Switch 2, add yourself to Nintendo’s waiting list, keep an eye on places like GameStop and Best Buy, and stay calm. They say good things come to those who wait. In the meantime, you can keep yourself entertained with that good old Switch 1.
