Spirits of Edo provides players with six eligible bachelors to choose from, including Kunitaka Tojo, the smoking samurai who escorts you to Edo from your mountain village. If you want to romance Tojo, then you have to know how to say the right things so that he falls in love with you. Then of course there is the all-important Affection or Sorrow ending choice.

Your choices during the common route don’t affect who’s route you will end up on, so feel free to speak to people in any order you like. The only decision that matters in this first part is the choice to join Samurai Town. Once you do this you will be locked into choosing between Tojo and Tomonari’s route.

Tojo’s Route: Samurai Town choices

Here are all the choices that raise your affection with Tojo in the Samurai Town route.

  • For a while I thought about whether I should point this out to Tomonari.
    • Point it out - Tojo
    • Don’t point it out - Tomonari
  • My mind blanked for a moment from the sudden question that was thrown my way…
    • Answer - Tomonari
    • I don’t know - Tojo
  • Suddenly put on the spot, I decided to…
    • Offer a condition - Tojo
    • Be honest and express embarrassment - Tomonari
  • The unexpected question came at me like an ambush. I froze for a second.
    • He’s… a friend - Tojo
    • We’re co-workers - No change
  • To his uncertain reply, I answered…
    • Why am I special? - Tomonari
    • Thank you - No change

If you want to play Tojo’s route, you need to make every choice that raises his affection. You can choose either option if there isn’t one specifically for Tojo, as long as Tojo’s affection is higher than Tomonari’s.

Tojo’s Route options

Here are the choices you have to make in order to get the Affection or Sorrow ending for Tojo.

  • What kind of class should I teach?
    • How to be self-sufficient - Tojo
    • How to interpret emotions - No change
  • (If all goes well, Komame and Tojo might get along better! Which strategy should I try?)
    • Try to get Komame to approach him - Sorrow ending
    • Have Kunitaka feed her - Affection ending
  • I jumped involuntarily when I felt his finger on my forehead.
    • Look away - No change
    • Stare at him - Tojo
  • (How do I answer him while still sparing his feelings as much as I can?)
    • Answer honestly - Tojo
    • Tell him only just now - No change
  • After giving it some thought I replied.
    • He wouldn’t do something like that - Tojo
    • He’s a precious friend of mine - No change

Unfortunately, there are three flags for the Affection ending, so it is more difficult to create a save point. However, you can create a save before these decisions, and it will lead to either ending no matter what your first choice was. This will make getting both endings easier. Make sure that Tojo’s affection is high enough if you want to achieve one of these endings.

Here are the choices for the two main route endings:

  • (Maybe Komame wishes she could fly like that too…?)
    • I hope you’ll be able to fly someday - Sorrow ending
    • No rush - Affection ending
  • Komame…
    • Run! - Sorrow ending
    • Call for help! - Affection ending

Tojo Route – Secret ending

Aside from the Affection and Sorrow endings, Tojo also has another secret Low Affection ending. This third ending contains one of the CGs for Tojo, so if you are completing your gallery you will need to see this one. The easiest way to achieve this is after you complete either of the main route endings. Go to Retrace Footsteps and select Chapter 6 Affection Low.

From here choose these options.

  • (How do I answer him while still sparing his feelings as much as I can?)
    • Answer honestly - Tojo
    • Tell him only just now - Low Affection Ending
  • After giving it some thought I replied.
    • He wouldn’t do something like that - Tojo
    • He’s a precious friend of mine - Low Affection Ending
  • (Maybe Komame wishes she could fly like that too…?)
    • I hope you’ll be able to fly someday - Low Affection Ending
    • No rush

If you ‘Skip Read’ after this, you should end up at the unread section for the alternate ending and with the last CG for your collection.
