It seems like Insomniac Games has been busier than a one-armed drummer. Hot on the heels of the absolute banger that was Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, rumors are swirling about what’s next. If the whispers are true, we’re in for a wild ride with both a Marvel’s Wolverine release window and a Venom game still cooking. Let’s break down the delicious gossip that’s been making the rounds.

Is Marvel’s Wolverine Clawing its Way to a 2026 Release?

Remember that epic cinematic teaser for Marvel’s Wolverine back in 2021? The one with Logan sitting at a bar, post-brawl, only to pop his claws with that satisfying snikt? Yeah, well, after that, Insomniac went quieter than a mouse in a library. We’ve been left to wonder, speculate, and re-watch that trailer an unhealthy number of times.

Then came the infamous ransomware attack in 2023, which was a massive gut punch for the studio. A ton of confidential data, including early gameplay and plot details for Wolverine, was dumped online. It was a scummy move, and many of us feared it would push the game’s release into the next decade.

But hold onto your adamantium skeletons, folks. Recent reports, particularly from the reliable folks at MP1st, claim that despite the leaks, Insomniac is sticking to its guns. The target release window for Marvel’s Wolverine is apparently still set for 2026. If true, that’s a testament to the sheer resilience and talent of the team at Insomniac. It also means we’re potentially just a couple of years away from tearing through bad guys as our favorite grumpy Canadian mutant. I, for one, am ready.

Don’t Count Venom Out Just Yet

After Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, where Venom played a massive and frankly terrifying role, fans were buzzing about a potential spin-off. The game even set up the perfect protagonist switch. But with all the focus on Wolverine and the fallout from the leak, some started to believe the Venom project had been quietly shelved.

According to these same fresh reports, that’s just not the case. The Venom spin-off is allegedly still in “active development.” And the best part? It seems Eddie Brock will be taking the lead. While Peter and Miles are off doing whatever it is Spider-Men do in their downtime, we’ll get to step into the gooey, symbiote-covered shoes of the Lethal Protector himself. Sources claim that motion capture and even voice lines from the legendary Tony Todd are already in the can, which suggests this project is further along than we might think.

The story could also get seriously twisted. Remember Cletus Kasady’s little cameo in Spider-Man 2? The leak suggests he could return as the chaotic and horrifying Carnage. Even more intriguingly, a monstrous version of Anti-Venom, controlled by Brock, is also rumored to be part of the package. A Venom-Carnage-Anti-Venom triple threat? Sign me up. Yesterday.

What’s Next for Insomniac’s Marvel Universe?

So, we have Wolverine potentially roaring to life in 2026 and a Venom game slithering through development. What else could Insomniac have up its sleeve? Well, the rumor mill isn’t done churning. There’s also talk of Spider-Man 2099, Miguel O’Hara, being worked on for a future project. Whether he’ll get his own game or feature in someone else’s remains to be seen, but the possibility is electrifying.

For now, all of this remains in the realm of “claims” and “reports.” Insomniac and Sony are keeping their cards close to their chest, as they should. We might even get a new Wolverine trailer at a State of Play later this year, but don’t hold your breath.

What’s clear is that Insomniac isn’t just building games; they’re crafting a sprawling, interconnected Marvel universe on PlayStation. And if their track record is anything to go by, whatever comes next will be well worth the wait. Let’s just hope the wait isn’t too long. My backlog can only entertain me for so long.
