The World Championship has three stages. The Play-In Stage (October 14th), the Swiss Stage (October 15th-25th), and the Knockout Stage (October 28th-November 9th).
Play-In Stage
The Play-In Stage is only one match this year. The fourth seed of the LCK and LPL battle it out for the final spot in the Swiss Stage. T1 faces IG on October 14th, starting at 4:00 PM CST, 10:00 AM CET, and 1:00 AM PT.
Swiss Stage
The Swiss Stage runs from October 15th to 25th. The days start at 4:00 PM CST, 10:00 AM CET, and 1:00 AM PT, unless stated otherwise.
Knockout Stage
The 2025 World Championship Knockout Stage has fewer breaks than previous editions. The quarterfinals and semifinals take place back-to-back. The Knockout Stage runs from October 28th to November 9th. All matches begin at 3:00 PM CST, 9:00 AM CET, and 12:00 AM PT.
In previous World Championships, the Swiss Stage had four pools for seeding. In 2025, the pools have changed to three:
For the first stage of matches, Pool 1 teams face Pool 3 teams, while Pool 2 teams face off. Teams from the same region can not face off. In future rounds, teams with the same score are drawn against each other, ensuring no repeat matchups. All elimination and qualification matches are best-of-3 (bo3), while the rest are best-of-1 (bo1). Winning three series qualifies you for the Knockout Stage, while losing three eliminates you from the event.
Eight teams progress from the Swiss Stage. Teams with a 3-0 record from the Swiss Stage face teams with a 3-2 record. The rest of the teams are drawn against each other. All matches are best-of-5 (bo5).
