In a more competitive year and with lower expectations, G2 Esports managed to bring back hope. They qualified for the Worlds Bracket Stage for the first time since 2020. But their journey is not over. They play tomorrow against Top Esports for a chance to make the semi-finals. G2 has never lost in this stage of the competition. For TES, they must dispel the curse that has seemed to plague this roster since its inception.
G2 begins their push to recreate 2019 at 12:00 AM PT (8:00 AM CET). Will they continue their perfect quarterfinal record at Worlds, or can TES prevail?
There has been one meeting between the two teams in 2025. That was the first game each team played in the Swiss Stage. TES came out victorious. The last Bo5 series between the teams was at MSI 2024. G2 won with a resounding 3-0 victory, humiliating TES.
G2 qualified for the quarterfinals with a 3-1 record, defeating Movistar KOI, Bilibili Gaming, and FlyQuest along the way. TES began with a 2-0 start, but they almost did not qualify. They needed a 2-1 series victory against BLG to advance to the Bracket Stage.
G2 is a team that has always been willing to pick niche champions. We have already seen Caps play Anivia at Worlds. They could have other champions up their sleeves. BrokenBlade also has the Kled into Sion possibility that we have seen him bring out multiple times. He could also pick Warwick, although G2 fans might want him to keep that locked away after his MSI performance. TES, on the other hand, should stick to meta champions, unless they have something particular prepared for the series. Kanavi is the best Qiyana in the world. Will G2 keep it banned for the entire series?
TES is a team that is notorious for choking on the international stage. Many expected them to go from 2-0 to 2-3 after their loss to KT Rolster. TES struggled against GenG, but who has not so far this year? They steadied the ship against BLG, but that was also with the LPL first seed struggling. G2 may not be the best team at the tournament, but if TES fails to perform, they will lose this series before they have a chance to participate. They lost 3-0 in the same place last year. Can they avoid repeating the past?
The best TES player throughout the year has been Kanavi. SkewMond will need to be at his best to keep the Korean jungler quiet. If he can manage to neutralize him, G2 will have a chance to beat the LPL third seed. He has been one of the most consistent players on the roster, but has struggled to perform on the big stage. This series is his time to show that he can compete with the best in the world in his rookie year.
G2 3-1 TES
Despite losing to TES earlier in the Swiss Stage, G2 has looked the more impressive team. Most of their loss can be attributed to a draft gap. Unless TES has improved drastically, they will struggle to compete with G2 in a longer series. They do have it in them, but if history is anything to go by, TES will choke again.
Regardless of who wins the series, they will not be the favored team in the Worlds semi-finals. Their opponents will either be Anyone’s Legend or T1. T1 has not looked dominant so far, but if they can beat AL in a Bo5, they will have likely improved drastically.
