For a large portion of the year, GenG Esports and Hanwha Life Esports have been the best teams in the LCK. However, at a crucial time, HLE fell by the wayside and lost MSI qualification to T1. They returned to their position during the LCK Playoffs. The two teams meet in the Worlds Quarterfinals. GenG outperformed HLE in their most recent meeting. The LCK first seed won 3-1 in the Grand Finals of the Playoffs.

Worlds 2025: GenG Esports Versus Hanwha Life Esports Schedule

The LCK finals rematch begins at 12:00 AM PT (8:00 AM CET). The match will be the first Best-of-five series since the Play-In Stage. Which LCK team will advance to the Semi-Finals?

GenG and HLE have met each other ten times this year. HLE has recorded two series wins, defeating GenG 3-2 during the LCK Cup to qualify for the First Stand event. The last time the teams met was a 3-1 victory in GenG’s favor in the LCK Playoffs Grand Final.

Both teams qualified for the Worlds Quarterfinals with a 3-1 record in the Swiss Stage. Their losses came against the same team, Anyone’s Legend, in a similar fashion. The other team they had in common was PSG Talon. GenG had an overall more difficult schedule, facing more Eastern teams.

Champions to Look Out For

Azir and Poppy have been the most-banned champions in Worlds so far. Both teams have players capable of piloting the champions. Zeka has gotten Azir the most out of any player during the tournament so far. The question will become whether either team is willing to let the other take Azir. We could see the Azir/Orianna trade that some others have gone with. Sion has been a dominant force and might stay banned for the majority of the series, unless they want him gone early, freeing up a ban.

Storylines Galore

Several storylines are on the cards. Peanut is on his last dance at Worlds. Chovy aims for the elusive trophy, while Zeus is looking to make history as the first player to win three consecutive World Championships. Both teams have what it takes to lift the Summoner’s Cup, and a victory in the series is a near guarantee that they will qualify for the Finals.

Teamfights Are Pivotal

GenG and HLE have always matched each other in multiple aspects. HLE, at their peak, has been one of the only teams to fight better than GenG. What makes GenG better is their macro, which gives them advantages heading into fights. With fights breaking out throughout the map for various objectives like Drakes, Grubs, Herald, Atakhan, and Baron, the team with the better team fights should come out on top. However, if GenG can manage to secure advantages in typical GenG fashion, HLE might be at too big a deficit.

Worlds 2025: GenG Esports Versus Hanwha Life Esports Prediction

GenG 3-2 HLE

Expecting anything less than five games between these two is unlikely. At their peaks, there is little to separate them. GenG, throughout the year, has shown that they are the better team, but HLE has not been as consistent. If there is a team to win before game five, that will likely be GenG. Regardless of the result, the teams should deliver one of the best series in World Championship history.

Winner Should Qualify For Finals

The winner of the series will face the victor of KT Rolster Versus CTBC Flying Oyster. Regardless of who advances, GenG or HLE should be favored to advance to the Grand Finals. KT’s form is unknown, given their schedule, but it is unlikely that they can compete with GenG or HLE. CFO has played against HLE, and they were second-best in the series.
