Wuthering Waves – Why You Should Pick Jianxin

Wuthering Waves gives players their 5-star Resonator of choice in the Beginner Banner. Here’s why (and why not) you should pick Jianxin as your free 5-star Resonator in Wuthering Waves.

Why pick Jianxin?

Jianxin is a 5-star Aero Gauntlet character. She is one of five choices you have in the 5-star character selector upon completing the Beginner Banner. The Beginner Banner is a discounted banner, where players can draw 50 times. Players can obtain a random 5-star standard character, and upon finishing the 50 draws, they will be able to choose in the selector.

The choices are Jianxin, Calcharo, Verina, Lingyang, and Encore.

Jianxin Skills

Jianxin has buffs, grouping, and damage in her kit. Her active skills are quite simple, and the most complicated part is her Resonance Skill which has a parry mechanic. The real depth in her kit lies in her Forte Circuit. Read more details about Jianxin kit here.

Basic Attack – Fengyiquan

Basic Attack

• Perform up to 4 attacks, dealing Aero DMG.

Heavy Attack

• Consume Stamina to attack the target, dealing Aero DMG.

Mid-air Attack

• Jianxin consumes Stamina to plunge and unleash a powerful kick, dealing Aero DMG.

Dodge Counter

• Use Basic Attack after a successful Dodge to attack the target, dealing Aero DMG.

Resonance Skill – Calming Air

Hold Resonance Skill to enter Parry Stance.

Chi Counter

• When Jianxin is attacked in the Parry Stance, she does not take damage and immediately performs Chi Counter, dealing Aero DMG.

Chi Parry

• Release the Resonance Skill during Parry Stance to interrupt Parry Stance and cast Chi Parry, dealing Aero DMG.

Resonance Liberation – Purification Force Field

Creates a strong wind field, continuously pulling targets within the wind field to the center and causing Aero DMG. When the wind field disappears, it will cause Aero DMG to all targets within the range again.

Jianxin is generally considered a good beginner pick. She can function as a support thanks to her ability to group up enemies, letting your main DPS hit more enemies at a time. Apart from this, Jianxin also has decent damage output thanks to her parry mechanic and deep Forte Circuit. Considering all of these gameplay factors, you should choose Jianxin if:

1. You want a flexible character. She can be a buffer/support and a damage dealer
2. You do not want to decide on whether you want a support or DPS; Jianxin is both.

Other factors that would make you want to choose Jianxin for your 5-star selector:

1. You like Jianxin’s character design.
2. You find her gameplay enjoyable.

Why you should not choose Jianxin

Jianxin is flexible with her buffs, grouping, and DPS potential. Hoewver, this means that she isn’t heavily indexed towards one archetype. Currently, while the character pool in Wuthering Waves is not that deep yet, Jianxin is quite high-value. However, her flexibility may also be her downfall and makes her susceptible to being powercrept by future supports/DPS.  Thus, you shouldn’t choose her as your free 5-star Resonator if:

1. You want long-term return on your investment in raising her.
2. You already have her; her Resonance Chain is not worth it.

Of course, the preference-related reasons are valid as well:

1. You do not like Jianxin’s character design.
2. You do not like her gameplay.
3. You prefer other characters in the free 5-star selector.
