XDefiant Guide – How to Unlock all Characters for each Faction

XDefiant finally launched and players can now enjoy playing as some of Ubisoft’s iconic characters from other shooting and action games. The free-to-play hero shooter features a collection of five factions filled with characters from various Ubisoft games. These titles include Far Cry 6, Ghost Recon Phantoms, Splinter Cell, The Division, and Watch Dogs.

All five of these games are split evenly into their respective factions having three characters each. As of this writing, Ubisoft didn’t clarify whether more characters or factions are coming to the game in the next few seasons. With that in mind, here’s a full guide on all XDefiant characters in the game.

XDefiant Characters

As mentioned earlier, each faction in XDefiant features three characters from the same universe. Here’s a full list:

Cleaners (The Division)

• De Rosa
• Green
• Kersey

DedSec (Watch Dogs)

• Gia
• Jing
• Sebastian

Echelon (Splinter Cell)

• Malee
• Rafa
• Samir

Libertad (Far Cry 6)

• Beto

Phantoms (Ghost Recon Phantoms)

When new players open XDefiant for the first time, with the exception of DedSec, all other factions will only have one character available to use. These are namely De Rosa, Iselda, Malee, and Singa. Watch Dogs’ faction will be locked at the start of the game. The only way to unlock it is if players purchase the faction for 1,000 XCoins or earn 700,000 XP.

Having all that in mind, one might wonder how exactly can they unlock the other characters.

How to Unlock Other XDefiant Characters

While Ubisoft technically gave players the option to purchase the DedSec characters, for the most part, they only need to complete a few challenges to gain access to all other characters. Here are all the faction challenges that unlock every character in the game currently:

Cleaners

• Get 50 kills with Incinerator Drone – Unlock Green
• Get 50 kills with Firebomb – Unlock Kersey

Echelon 

• Get 100 kills while using Digital Ghillie Suit – Unlock Samir
• Get 50 Intel Suit Spot assists – Unlock Rafa

Libertad 

• Heal 5,000 to allies with BioVida Boost – Unlock Beto
• Heal 5,000 to allies with El Remedio – Unlock Seleste

Phantoms 

• Block 10,000 damage with Mag Barrier – Unlock Gorgon
• Get 25 kills with Blitz Shield – Unlock Rhino

Faction Abilities

Given how each faction is from a different Ubisoft universe, they respectively specialize in certain skill sets. All these abilities play an important role in the team. While Ubisoft didn’t specify what roles each faction plays, it’s fairly easy to tell how exactly they contribute to the team. For players still looking for a suitable faction to consistently play, here’s a full guide.

Cleaners

The Cleaners are ex-NYC Sanitation workers turned into Division agents. Their goal is to wreak havoc and ensure a burning environment. It’s the perfect role for players who like denying areas. Here are all their abilities:

• Incinerator Drone is an activated ability that delivers a line of fire up to a certain point before exploding.
• Firebomb is an activated area of effect ability that has players detonating a Molotov Cocktail on the ground leaving a certain portion with a burning floor.
• Incendiary Rounds is a passive trait that gives Cleaners the ability to fire incendiary ammo for extra burn damage. However, they have a decreased weapon range.
• The Purifier is their Ultra ability wherein they blast a flamethrower and burn their enemies to a crisp.

DeadSec

DeadSec comes from the hacking world of Watch Dogs. This faction mainly focuses on disrupting their opponents’ gameplay by either disabling their abilities or copying their abilities and using them against adversaries. Here are all their abilities:

• Hijack is an activated ability that hacks enemy-deployed abilities and makes them their own.
• Spiderbot is another activated ability that has players deploy a Spiderbot that will target and stun the nearest foe via face hug.
• Fabricator is a passive trait that allows players to print a new copy of a deployed device.
• Lockout is their Ultra ability wherein it prevents enemies from using any of their abilities.

Echelon

The super spies of Splinter Cell are now in XDefiant and are a perfect fit for players who particularly love flanking and providing recon for their team. This faction focuses on stealth and surprising enemies from behind. Here are all their abilities:

• Digital Ghillie Suit is an activated ability that turns the Echelon character invisible. However, be mindful about moving around as it reduces the invisibility, making players easier to spot by enemies.
• Intel Suit is an activated ability that sends sonar waves to detect enemies from within a radius.
• Low Profile is a passive trait that makes Echelon characters invisible on the mini-map regardless of what actions they perform.
• Sonar Goggles is their Ultra ability that reveals all enemies around the map which allows players to hunt them down with Sam Fisher’s 5.7 Pistol.

Libertad

The freedom fighters of Libertad have joined the fray and are ready to continue fighting in XDefiant. These characters from Far Cry 6 specialize in healing their team. Here are all their abilities:

• BioVida Boost is an activated ability that sends a fortifying wave that boosts the team’s health. Allies need to be within range to receive the boost.
• El Remedio is an activated throwable ability that sends a healing gas canister toward whichever direction a player throws it at. Allies, including yourself, will receive health regeneration until the canister is either destroyed or canceled.
• Espiritu de Libertad is a passive trait that can consistently heal allies as long as the player remains close to them.
• Medico Supremo is their Ultra ability that has players deploy a backpack filled with medical supplies which should provide large health and healing boosts in a limited area.

Phantoms

Phantoms are considered the tank faction in XDefiant. They provide shields for the team and deal heavy damage as well. Here are all their abilities:

• Mag Barrier is an activated ability that has players throwing an electromagnetic barrier that blocks incoming bullets and grenades sent by enemies.
• Blitz Shield is an activated ability that has players equip a tactical shield while in combat. They can also use the shield as a weapon, dealing significant damage to adversaries.
• Hardened is a passive trait that gives Phantoms increased health.
• Aegis is their Ultra ability that has players summon a spherical plasma shield with electro-scatter guns to use for close-quarter combat.
