Not much has been released about the upcoming Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate. Originally revealed in 2021, it has been near radio silence since. Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age was released back in 2017, meaning we are nearing a decade between Dragon Quest entries. Not only has it been a long time, but fans have barely even gotten any information since the original announcement, which came as part of the series’ 35th anniversary celebration. Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii has finally reappeared, and at least has confirmed the game has not been canceled. At least it’s a start!

Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate Gets a Morsel of Information

Dragon Quest fans have been absolutely starved for information regarding the upcoming Dragon Quest 12 franchise. Other than the announcement, there have been no images, no trailers, and no real updates to speak of at all. In 2024 and again earlier this year, both Square Enix and Yuji Horii himself confirmed that Dragon Quest 12 was still in production. Otherwise… nothing else has been said. In February, Horii said information would be revealed little by little, and boy, that was an understatement.

A recent interview with Gamereactor is all that fans have been provided since that time in regards to Dragon Quest 12. In the interview, Horii stated, “Yes, indeed, I can’t say anything, I apologize. I am making it, putting lots of work into it… I can only say that the next work will be great too, [I’m] working really hard. Please look forward to it is the only thing I can say.” I mean, at least it is being made? No information whatsoever besides that is not exactly going to engage the fanbase, but maybe by 2030, we will have an image of the game or something to wet our appetite.

Final Thoughts

Dragon Quest is a fantastic series, and clearly, Square Enix recognizes that, given their recent remakes and remasters for older entries in the iconic franchise. All jokes aside, given that Square Enix had recent restructuring and cancellations, it is nice to hear that at least Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate was not one of them. Given how long Square has been taking between mainline entries in their major series, though, we likely have a long wait ahead of us. Keep your ear to the ground, because perhaps we will get a snippet of info before the next generation graduates from college.
