The Indiana Fever signed guard Aari McDonald for the rest of the 2025 WNBA season on Wednesday. The move came after the team parted ways with forward DeWanna Bonner.

Bonner, 37, had been away from the team for the last five games and "felt the fit did not work out" after signing as a free agent this past offseason. The two-time WNBA champion saw a dip in her minutes, averaging just 21.3 per game. She also started only three of the nine games she played.

Despite playing a different position than Bonner, McDonald — who played three games for the Fever earlier this season on a WNBA emergency hardship exception — was the easy decision because she is already familiar with the team's system.

After the Fever made things official on Wednesday, McDonald shared a statement.

"I’m so excited to rejoin the Fever," McDonald said. "Although my time with the team was brief, it immediately felt like the place to be,” McDonald said. "I’m grateful for the warm welcome from the coaches, teammates, and fans—and most of all, I thank God for the incredible journey I’m on."

McDonald, 26, was with the team when Indiana was dealing with injuries at the guard position. Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham and Sydney Colson all suffered injuries at various points early in the season.

In the three games McDonald played, she averaged 11.0 points, 1.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.

Fever COO and general manager Amber Cox also commented on bringing McDonald back.

"Though only here a few games, her impact as a playmaker and a defender was evident," Cox said. "We are very excited to welcome her back for the remainder of the season."
