Ace of greats: Las Vegas captures WNBA championship

A WNBA dynasty officially began Friday night when the Las Vegas Aces captured their third WNBA championship in the last four seasons. Las Vegas used a 97-86 victory on Friday to sweep the Phoenix Mercury.

How the Aces won the WNBA title

The main reason for the success from Las Vegas was the same as it's been all season, A'ja Wilson. The four-time WNBA MVP left her mark on the series, averaging 28.5 points and 11.7 rebounds per game in the series.

Those stats gave Wilson her second Finals MVP Award in the last three seasons, cementing her as one of the top players in the league.

Other contributors for the Aces

In Game 4 specifically, the Aces got double-digit points from four players outside of Wilson (31). Chelsea Gray (18), Jackie Young (18), Jewell Loyd (12) and Dana Evans (10) were the four.

Injuries for Mercury doomed them in the end

Phoenix was bitten by the injury bug in both Game 3 and Game 4. Game 3 saw Satou Sabally leave with a head injury, while Game 4 saw Alyssa Thomas leave with an arm injury. Those two players leaving games was just a recipe for disaster for the Mercury.

Las Vegas will undoubtedly be considered the odds-on favorite to win next season's WNBA Finals, and with Wilson leading the charge, it'll have an excellent chance to do so.
