Coach Becky Hammon is loving the new-look Aces.
In an recent interview with the Las Vegas Review Journal, said, “To me, the mindset is different,” Hammon said at media day last week. “You talk about dogs: ‘Oh, this person, so and so is a dog.’ But I’m done with the dogs. I want the hungry wolves. Give me the wolves. And I think we got some. We’re building our pack.”
The season opener against the New York Liberty is literally two days away.
The Aces begin their 2025 season quest for a third WNBA championship on Saturday, May 17 against the Liberty.
The season opener is a chance for the Aces to take revenge on the Liberty after losing in last year’s semifinals. The Liberty home opener will be their ring ceremony as well.
The Aces can look to ruin it.
Coach Hammon explained the loss in detail, saying that the Liberty were ‘hungry’ for their first franchise title and the Aces had just won two back-to-back in 2022 and 2023.
“They had had a long (2023) offseason. Now it was us having a long offseason,” Hammon said. “So we had a lot to think about. We had a lot to change. We had a lot of areas we needed to grow in. And so that’s what we did.”
