Aces drop another game against Minnesota

On Friday, the Las Vegas Aces slide to 12-13 as they fell to the Minnesota Lynx 109-78.

In the first half, both teams started off hot. There were 5 lead changes and two ties between the two teams. With 4:22 left in the first quarter, the Aces held a small lead 14-12. The Lynx went on an 8-2 run with to close out the first quarter.

The Lynx scored first in the second quarter to take a 31-18 lead. With 3:29 left to play in the second quarter, the Aces went on a run to close the lead to seven, 39-32. In the closing minutes of the half, the Lynx then went on a 12-3 run.

To start the second half, the Aces were down by 17 at the 8:42 mark. The Aces shooting percentage did improve to 10 of 12 from the floor. Las Vegas went 5 of 7 from the free-throw line.

During the fourth quarter, the Aces went 29.4% from the floor, while Minnesota shot 58.8% from the floor and managed to outscore the Aces 15-7. In the fourth quarter, Kierstan Bell scored 6 points.

In the paint, the Aces were outpaced 34-30 by Minnesota.

A’ja Wilson led the Aces scoring a team-high 15 points and 7 rebounds, while Jackie Young added 14 points and 6 assists.

Aces coach Becky Hammon said, “But you don’t get ball movement without player movement, and I thought we were very stationary in that second half. Standing around a lot, not creating those advantages for ourselves.”

The Aces continue their road trip on to Dallas (7-17) on Sunday, July 27 at 1pm PT.
