The Las Vegas Aces (14-14) entered this game against the Minnesota Lynx (24-5) on a wave after capturing a win against the Los Angeles Spark on July 29.
In the first half, the Las Vegas Aces got off to a bit of a slow start. The Lynx then took a 3-2 lead with 8:14 on the clock in the first. Las Vegas had back-to-back turnovers early in the first quarter.
Jewell Loyd got off to a hot start with back-to-back jumpers and a trip to the foul line. Loyd continued to be aggressive in the paint. To end the first quarter, the Aces were down 35-17.
The Lynx continued to pull away from the Aces as the clock ticked down on the second quarter, leading 54-27.
To close out he first half, Kayla McBride went 8-for-8from three-point range to put the Lynx up 67-30. Jewell Loyd tried to inject some momentum into the Aces before the end of the half with a three-pointer of her own. Minnesota led 67-33.
In the second half, Las Vegas continued its woes on the court. At the 1:26 mark in the third quarter, Minnesota was up by as much as 40 points.
Napheesa Collier went down in the third quarter with a left ankle injury, she did not return to the game.
The Lynx completely shut down the Aces, 111-58.
In the post-game, Megan Gustafson said, “[At halftime]Everybody was putting in their thoughts, just trying to see what could we do better.”
Jewell Loyd, “It’s not a great feeling to lose this way.”
The Las Vegas Aces are now 14-14 and face the Golden State Valkyries Sunday August 3 at home at 3pm PT. It will be the final back-to-back series for the Aces this season.
