It was started off as a very tight game between the Las Vegas Aces (8-8) and the Phoenix Mercury (12-5).
In the first quarter, both teams were tied 2-2 with 7:05 left in the quarter. Jackie Young came up big with a runner in the paint which gave the Aces an early lead of 4-2. At the close of the first quarter, the Aces were down 21-13. To close out the first half, the Aces were down
In the third quarter, with the shot clock winding down, Chelsea Gray knocked down a big three to pull the Aces to within one of the Mercury, 44-43. With 7:29 left in the quarter, A’ja Wilson picked up an and-one and she completed the two point play to give the Aces a 46-44 lead.
In the fourth quarter, it was a shootout for both teams. With less than 10:00 left in the game, the Aces were up 59-50. With 1:49 left in the game, A’ja Wilson went to the free-throw line to make two clutch free-throws to give the Aces the 79-78 lead.
With 1:21 left, Jackie Young made a clutch jumper to tie the game, 81-81. Down the stretch, the Aces pulled together to close out the Mercury. The Aces managed to squeak by with a narrow 84-81 win today over the Mercury.
Rookie Aaliyah Nye earned a career-high 16 points and went 5-of-7 off the bench.
Wilson racked up her sixth double-double of the season. She went for 26 points, 18 rebounds and 7 assists.
In the post-game presser, A’ja Wilson said regarding lifting her teammates up and showing unity, “I love what I do and I love who I do it with”
