A’ja Wilson is undoubtedly one of the most decorated women’s basketball players of all time.
She has won at every level of basketball she has ever competed in. Wilson won a national championship with the South Carolina Gamecocks in 2017, is a two-time champion with the Las Vegas Aces (2022-23) and a two-time Olympic gold medalist (2020, 2024).
Wilson’s list of personal accomplishments is equally as impressive. She was a three-time All-American at South Carolina (2016-18), is a three-time WNBA MVP (2020, 2022, 2024) and has consistently been at or near the top of every statistical category year in and year out.
Now, Wilson can add one more award to her ever-growing list of them.
On Tuesday, USA Basketball named Wilson as the 2024 USA Basketball Five-on-Five Female Athlete of the Year.

This is Wilson’s third time claiming the award, as she has earned the title in 2015 and 2022. She is one of only five three-time winners, joining Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Lisa Leslie and Teresa Edwards in that exclusive group.
At the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, Wilson averaged a double-double and led Team USA in points (18.7) and rebounds (10.2) per game. She also led the team in blocks (2.7) and steals (1.5) per game to become only the second American player in history (Cheryl Miller (1984)) to lead her team in four major statistics.
Between the MVP awards, championships and gold medals, the 2020’s have been a tremendous decade for Wilson so far. The scary part is that is she accomplished all that she has at just 28 years old, indicating that there is plenty of time left to achieve even greater heights.
Wilson is on a trajectory to become arguably the greatest women’s basketball player of all time, and this award is just the latest accolade to prove that point.
